Review: Cornered: Three Romantic Suspense Novellas by Lynette Eason, Lynn H. Blackburn, & Natalie Walters

About the Book
Prepare for three times the thrills with these nail-biting page-turners from your favorite romantic suspense authors!

In In the Dark by Lynette Eason, accountant Steph Cross is cleaning out a coworker's desk after her untimely death when she finds cryptic notes that lead her to believe her friend's car accident was no accident at all. Detective Tate Cooper is determined to help her crack the case before someone else gets hurt. But can he protect the woman who has so quickly laid claim to his heart?

In Downfall by Lynn H. Blackburn, chef Cassie Quinn gets an offer she can't refuse: to fill in as chef at an exclusive mountain resort. But when the kitchen is destroyed and it becomes clear Cassie is in danger, she's forced to accept the help of her ex-boyfriend, Detective Donovan Bledsoe, to find the culprit and keep her safe.

In Perilous Obsession by Natalie Walters, teacher Lahela Young becomes the target of someone with a twisted obsession of righting a wrong. The first person she turns to is her good friend Briggs Turner. Briggs may have left his career as a police officer, but he still has the instinct to protect--especially for Lahela.

MY THOUGHTS

This fantastic collection features fast-paced and exciting stories from three of my favorite suspense authors. Sometimes novellas can feel rushed and leave me unsatisfied, but that was not the case here. These stories were jam-packed full of everything I love in a romantic suspense. I loved all three of them.

In the Dark by Lynette Eason
I was hooked from the very first page. I liked Steph and Tate together. They had great chemistry right from the start, and I enjoyed watching them work together to try and solve the mystery surrounding her friend’s murder. There was so much intrigue! I couldn’t read fast enough. I could hardly catch my breath during the climactic ending. And that twist left me reeling! So good!

Downfall by Lynn H. Blackburn
This story was suspenseful and full of danger. I was really rooting for Cassie and Donovan to work through their issues because they were so good for each other. I thought Cassie’s dislike of confrontation was relatable, especially after what had happened to her. I loved to see so much character growth packed into this novella. I also thought that the Hatfield and McCoy-esque feud added a really interesting aspect to the story.

Perilous Obsession by Natalie Walters

This was an intense and action-packed story that gripped me from the very beginning and didn’t let go until the very end. I instantly liked Lahela and Briggs and was eager to see them go from friends to more. They had amazing chemistry! The danger started off kinda slow, but it kept ramping up until I could hardly catch my breath. I was so worried for Lahela. There was one point near the end where I could hardly read fast enough. My anxiety was at an all-time high. There were a couple of moments that sent chills down my spine.

If you're looking for edge-of-your-seat, heart-pounding romantic suspense, grab a copy of this book! You won't be disappointed. Even though these stories are connected to the authors’ series, they standalone perfectly fine.

I received a copy of this book and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion.

Friday 56 asks you to grab a book (any book), turn to page 56 or 56% in your ereader and share a non-spoilery sentence or two. It was started by Freda at Freda's Voice, but Anne over at My Head is Full of Books has taken over for the time being.

This week I'm featuring Cornered: Three Romantic Suspense Novellas by Lynette Eason, Lynn H. Blackburn, and Natalie Walters. This book releases Tuesday, November 19. I just finished the ARC and loved it! Each story was so suspenseful! I thought I'd share the first line and 56-ish of each story.

In the Dark by Lynette Eason
The September sun had barely risen over the mountain town of Lake City, North Carolina, casting a warm, golden glow that filtered through Stephanie Cross's kitchen window.

Downfall by Lynn H. Blackburn
Cassie Quinn dropped her speed as she approached the employee entrance to The Haven. Everyone in the small town of Gossamer Falls knew Cassie had a lead foot. But violating the fifteen-mile-per-hour speed limit within the gates of The Haven was a one-way ticket to unemployment.

Perilous Obsession by Natalie Walters
"But why would they put a flamingo in jail?"

Friday 56

In the Dark by Lynette Eason
Steph was grateful for her big brother, truly. But if James hadn't left when Tate and Cole drove up, she was going to have to kick him and his helicoptering out.

Downfall by Lynn H. Blackburn
Donovan tried to keep his shock from showing on his face. He'd known it had been bad, but he hadn't expected it to be that bad.

Perilous Obsession by Natalie Walters
Lahela's hand flew to her mouth, barely blocking her gasp. Her body stiffened even as she shook her head like she didn't believe it.

MY THOUGHTS

I had the privilege of receiving an early copy of this collection, and while I haven't read all the stories (though I plan to), I've read a few. My thoughts on those are below.

Last Christmas by Autumn Macarthur
What a sweet second chance romance! Full of hope, forgiveness, and a wonderful message of faith, I could hardly set it down.

I really liked Holliday and Zay. There were some issues from their past that they needed to work through, a misunderstanding from the previous Christmas, but I was rooting so hard for them.

I loved The Blue Door. It’s such a special place. I loved meeting the people who worked there and the residents. I look forward to visiting again. This was such a heartwarming Christmas story. I loved it so much!

A Maple Run Christmas by Toni Shiloh
This was such a great fake dating, friends-to-more romance. I loved that God was at the forefront of this story. I loved how the characters talked to Him, listened for His answers, and trusted in His ways and timing. And I loved the big family dynamics. I always enjoy my visits to Maple Run, though they never seem to last long enough. This was another wonderful story from Toni Shiloh.

Emma’s Christmas Surprise by Linore Rose Burkard
Emma’s done with romance, but it’s not done with her.
I was a little apprehensive about this story and the potentially dicey relationship dynamic, but I was so curious how it would all turn out and I’m happy that I stuck with it. There was a really great reminder to seek, listen, and trust God.

From Realms of Glory by Scott R. Rezar
This was such a beautiful love story. I’m almost at a loss for words. I loved how resilient Matt and Jennifer were. They were dealing with a really tough situation, but they never gave up. I loved the message of hope and the reminder that all things are possible with God. This was my first time reading anything by this author, but it won’t be my last. I’m looking forward to more from him.

I received a copy of this book and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion.

Review: Heroes in the Crossfire: Four Romantic Suspense Novellas

About the Book
Four Romantic Suspense Novellas by award-winning, bestselling authors.

Out of Time by Lynn Blackburn

Code Trauma by Lynette Eason

She and her fiancĂ©, Detective Andy McKittrick are “taking a break”, and a patient has died under mysterious circumstances. Life is complicated at the moment so when she’s attacked, her friends—and “on hold” fiancĂ© come to the rescue. Andy may have his issues, but he’s never stopped loving Holly. When he hears someone is out to get her, he races to her side. Can they find a killer before the killer succeeds in sending Holly six feet under?

Dawn's Hidden Threat by Elizabeth Goddard
An Unexpected Search and Rescue uncovers a hidden threat. When Ridge Ledger’s SAR and avalanche dog discovers an injured woman, Ridge is surprised that she’s the woman who broke his heart two months ago---in California. Not Alaska. He doesn’t know why she’s not still in the Lower 48, and he’s caught off guard when she attacks him as if fighting for her life. He’s shocked to learn the woman he loved has forgotten him. Angie Harris—is that even her name? —can’t recall who she is. She doesn’t know whom to trust, except for the man who rescued her from a cold dark cave and a grizzly bear. But she can’t forget the face of the man who tried to kill her. Remembering the reason that she came to Alaska is vital to her survival, and as it turns out, Ridge’s survival too.

Point Blank by Lisa Harris
From USA Today Best-selling author, Lisa Harris, comes a novella that brings together fan-favorite characters from two of her series—Nikki Boyd, her husband Tyler, and Jack Spencer from her best-selling Nikki Boyd Files Series, and Madison James and Jonas Quinn from her more recent US Marshal Series. When one of Nikki’s teammates is killed during a routine training exercise at a shoot house, deadly secrets are revealed as evidence of murder surfaces. Now, the remaining team is caught up in a highly personal case that pulls them into a tangled web of deception as they race to find a killer.

Available in Kindle Unlimited at time of posting

MY THOUGHTS

This collection contains four novellas from some of the top romantic suspense authors in the Christian fiction genre. All of the stories are connected to at least one of their series. I was worried I'd be lost with most of them since I haven't had the chance to read any of the series before, but that wasn't the case at all. I was completely invested and even more eager to check out the series these stories are connected to.

My favorites were Out of Time by Lynn H. Blackburn and Code Trauma by Lynette Eason. They were both super suspenseful and held my full attention from beginning to end. Elizabeth Goddard's story is a prequel to her forthcoming Missing in Alaska series and has an amnesia plotline. I'd recently read a couple of other mysteries that featured that same plot, so I was a little burned out on that trope. But it was an otherwise engaging story. Point Blank by Lisa Harris connects her Nikki Boyd and US Marshals series. I thought this one started out really strong, but the mystery took a bit of a convoluted turn. I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Join these digital friends as they each live out their own swoon-worthy love stories, minus teased bangs and mini skirts, reminiscent of some your favorite romantic comedies from the most righteous decade.

The home they're assigned to renovate is a money “pitt” and they’re sure it’s out to get them. So is the general contractor. And don’t even get them started on the family of squirrels living in it…

Falling For a Price by Bell Renshaw: Amie Lewis prefers writing about the escapades of others, but when a mysterious note arrives, it’s time to start her own adventure. Hiring Malcom Price, a handsome but obnoxious guide, is her first mistake. Being caught in the middle of his feud with Russian treasure hunters is the second. The third? Falling for him.

Lake Shore Wandering by Jennifer Rodewald: Hazel Wallace is working on a plan to keep her peaceful, remote life. When Bennet Crofton shows up pretending to be something he’s not, she knows she’s running out of time. Luckily for her, he hit his head and can’t remember a thing. Evie Tyler's Day Off by Betsy St. Amant: When Evie Tyler plays hooky on her 30th birthday to complete the remaining 9 items on her “30 Before 30” bucket list with her best friend, she never expected her childhood crush—her BFF’s brother—to tag along. Red convertibles, impromptu concerts, and a hilarious comedy of errors collide into one day off Evie will never forget.

Just Like That by Teresa Tysinger: New York City-based influencer Jane Holland is about to reel in the biggest partnership of her career. Life takes an unexpected turn when she’s needed in North Carolina to care for her niece. Will Jane find where she truly fits in her rural hometown—and with Andrew, her all-grown-up crush? Or, will opportunity draw her back to the life she always thought she wanted?

Sure About You by Jaycee Weaver: Editor, foodie, and 80s movies lover Isley Bradford lives by her trusty planner. Securing her dream job means traveling to a conference with the too-charming coworker she loathes. But with each bump in the road—some literally—he challenges her perceptions and makes her laugh. She'd had her future perfectly planned. Now? She's not so sure.

MY THOUGHTS

What an awesome collection of modern day 80s romcom-inspired novellas! I was only familiar with two of the movies these stories were based on, but that didn't hinder my enjoyment one bit. I enjoyed every single story. They were all so good and I can't recommend it highly enough!

Just Like That
by Teresa Tysinger

I loved this one! I liked seeing Jane back in her hometown of Cades Hollow, North Carolina. It's such a departure from the NYC lifestyle she's been living. I thought it was really interesting getting a peek at what an influencer does too. Jane and Andrew were so cute together, and I loved the fact that they didn't let misunderstandings linger for long. All in all, a really sweet story that I enjoyed a great deal.

Sure About You by Jaycee Weaver
I love a good enemies to lovers story and this one was great. I enjoyed the first-person narration from both Pax and Isley. Pax was charming from the get-go, but I didn't know what to think about Isley at first. Then, I realized she and I are a lot alike, lol, so I couldn't help but root for her. I thought the road trip was a ton of fun and loved all their "getting to know you" games. I also really loved seeing Pax's strong faith. So inspiring!

Evie Tyler's Day Off by Betsy St. Amant
This was such a fun take on Ferris Bueller's Day Off. There were lots of laughs and some hilarious, sometimes awkward, situations while Evie was marking off items on her "30 Before 30" bucket list. Evie was super likable, relatable, and so brave in facing some of her fears. Gemma was a great friend, and Colin was such a sweet and swoonworthy guy. I can't say enough good things about this novella!

Falling for a Price by Bell Renshaw
I enjoyed the fact that this story had a little mystery and suspense added to it. Amie was completely out of her element, but I admired her tenacity in trying to find her sister. Malcom's motives seemed a little questionable at first, but there was something so charming about him that I just knew there had to be more to his story. They didn't get off to the greatest start and things kinda went downhill from there for a little while, lol, but that led to some funny moments. This ended up being quite a fun read.

The Fix Up by Mikal Dawn
It was so fun watching the characters compete on a home renovation show. I enjoy those types of shows, so it was great to kinda get an "inside" look at what that might be like. The house that Henley and Brad "Not-the-Movie-Star" Pitt are tasked with renovating is a complete and total disaster. Anything that could go wrong did go wrong. I kept wondering what sort of (hilarious) calamity they'd encounter next. So entertaining!

Lake Shore Wandering by Jennifer Rodewald
This was a super fun gender-swapped remake of Overboard. Hazel was very much an outdoorsy country girl, while Bennet was very much a fancy city boy. Polar opposites, to say the least! So, you can just imagine the sparks that fly, right? There were so many hilarious, laugh-out-loud moments, but this was also a surprisingly sweet and tender read. I loved every second of it and didn't want it to end.

I received an early copy of this book and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion.

Review: Good Neighbors by Stephanie Burgis

About the Book
When a grumpy inventor meets her outrageous new neighbor in the big black castle down the road, more than one type of spark will fly!

Mia Brandt knows better than to ever again allow her true powers to be discovered. Ever since her last neighbors burned down her workshop in a night of terror and flame, she's been determined to stay solitary, safe, and - to all outside appearances - perfectly respectable...

But Leander Fabian, whose sinister castle looms over her cozy new cottage, has far more dangerous ideas in mind. When he persuades Mia into a reluctant alliance, she finds herself swept into an exhilarating world of midnight balls, interfering countesses, illicit opera house expeditions, necromantic duels, and a whole unnatural community of fellow magic-workers and outcasts, all of whom are facing a terrifying threat.

Luckily, Mia has unnatural powers of her own - but even her unique skills may not be enough to protect her new found family and help her resist the wickedly provoking neighbor who's seen through all of her shields from the beginning.

This novel-length collection includes all four stories and novellas originally published on Stephanie Burgis's Patreon in 2020-2021: Good Neighbors, Deadly Courtesies, Fine Deceptions, and Fierce Company.

MY THOUGHTS

This was a charming read. It’s a collection of four short stories/novellas that follows new neighbors Leander Fabian, a necromancer who lives in a dark and foreboding castle, and Mia Brandt, an inventor who’s just moved to the neighborhood after a bad experience forced her and her father to leave their old one.

Mia was a fierce, stubborn, and independent woman who never backed down. She was set in her ways and had a bit of a prickly personality but was likable from the get-go. And her distaste for socializing was 100% relatable, at least for me. She was such a fun heroine to read about. My only complaint about her was her habit of constantly jumping to the wrong conclusion. It got kinda tedious after a while.

Leander was the very definition of tall, dark, and handsome. And the mysterious air around him just added to his intrigue. Him and Mia were great allies, but I never fully bought into their romance.

While this collection wasn't my favorite from this author, it was still an enjoyable read, especially the first two stories.

I received an advanced copy of this book and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion.

Book Beginnings (From the first story: Good Neighbors)
It wasn't so bad living next door to a notorious necromancer, most of the time.

I looked at my first-ever ally and friend, who was waiting for my response with hectic color staining his alabaster cheeks and an anguished look in his gleaming dark eyes.

Can small town and big city discover a Christmas future that will last far beyond the page?

An Unscripted Christmas by Teresa Tysinger
Ellie and Oliver Larson face a Christmas full of uncertainty rather than festive cheer. Ellie is tired of playing a supporting role to Oliver’s passion of running the Kedgewick Creek Playhouse. Oliver can’t imagine his life without her. When things go off script, will their love story find its second act?

Dreams in Toyland by Janine Rosche
Toy shop owner Peyton Hammond knows a secret that could take down online giant Kiljoy Toyz and its owner, Joey Kiljoy. After the two adversaries spend Christmas Eve delivering gifts for charity, will the sun rise on newfound love, or will prejudice and lost dreams keep hope in the dark?

MY THOUGHTS

The Christmas Clue to Finding You by Pepper Basham
4.5 Stars

What a great opener to this collection and a wonderful introduction to the charming town of Kedgewick Creek and its residents. The characters were lovable. I really liked Piper and Gabe and Piper's matchmaking Granny. The whole idea of the Christmas Scavenger Hunt was so fun... and romantic. Though this was a quick read, it packed just as much into it as a full-length story. I enjoyed every second of it.

Fave Quote:
It was time to let go of all the hurts and embrace the hope. To forgive and live. To choose tomorrow instead of yesterday. And to keep a better watch for those heavenly clues of love on a daily basis.

This was a sweet story that I really enjoyed. I loved The Daily Press, the coffee shop/bookstore. It was such a cozy place. I'd stay there all the time if it were real. Avery and Hunter's banter was so much fun and I liked that there was just a little bit of a mystery.

An Unscripted Christmas by Teresa Tysinger

This story features an older couple who've been married for a longtime but are struggling and trying to rekindle their love. I can't say that I ever really connected with Ellie and Oliver, but I did enjoy getting a look behind the scenes of the theater. There was just too much telling instead of showing, a whiny unsympathetic character, and a miscommunication that led to an overly dramatic response that could've been avoided with just one simple conversation.

Dreams in Toyland by Janine Rosche

This was my favorite story of the collection. It's my first time reading anything from this author, but it certainly won't be the last. It was so heartwarming, so sweet, so much fun. I had a big smile on my face throughout pretty much the whole thing. The toy shop element was a lot of fun and added a bit of whimsy to the story. And I loved Joey. He was such an awesome guy, I couldn't help but fall for him. All in all, this was a stellar story and the perfect ending to this great collection.

Review: Mistletoe and Murder: A Christmas Suspense Collection

About the Book
Silent Night, Deadly Night. Welcome to a Killer Christmas!

Danger and suspense await you this Christmas season in Mistletoe and Murder: A Christmas Suspense Collection featuring 10 individual novellas of suspense from some of today’s most talented Christian Suspense authors.

Come with us on a heart-racing journey through the holidays as USA Today, Christian Booksellers Association, and ECPA Bestselling authors Mary Alford, Adam Blumer, Liz Bradford, Vicki Hinze, Shaen Layle, Loree Lough, Nancy Mehl, Cara Putman, Lynn Shannon, and Virginia Vaughan, weave tales of suspense that will have you flipping pages well into the new year.

My Thoughts

Mistletoe and Murder was a nice collection of suspense and mystery novellas that's perfect for the Christmas season. Like with most box sets, this was a mixed bag of stories that I enjoyed to varying degrees. There were stories I loved, stories that were okay, and some that just weren't my cup of tea. There were authors I was familiar with and others that were new to me, several that I'm eager to check out more stuff from. If you're a fan of suspense, give this collection a try.

Dead of Winter by Mary Alford
Deputy Ava Harper's brother goes missing in the middle of a blizzard and it's a race against time to find him.

I really need to read more from this author. I've read a couple of her novellas and liked them. This one was compelling and held my full attention. Though the main mystery was solved, there was a secondary one that wasn't, so I'll be looking for the next book to see how that turns out.

Death the Halls by Adam Blumer
A family Christmas getaway to their cabin in the Michigan countryside turns deadly.

The first chapter pulled me right in, but my interest kinda waned for a bit after that. It did pull me back in after a little while, but the unrealistic and, at times, convoluted plot hindered my enjoyment.

Revenge Ignited (Knoxville FBI Prequel) by Liz Bradford
Newly appointed guardian to her nieces and nephew, Aliza Blake wants to make this Christmas special despite the tragedy of the past year. But a thief starts breaking into houses in her neighborhood and stealing Christmas gifts. Can Aliza solve the mystery and catch the bad guy before Christmas is ruined?

This story was okay. It was a bit slow paced and dragged in places, but I ended up enjoying it. I really liked how the characters leaned on God during their hardships.

The Marked Witness (A Shadow Watchers Story) by Vicki Hinze
A mother and daughter in witness protection find themselves in danger and call on an old friend for help.

This was a part of a series, one I haven't read, so I was worried I'd be lost, but that wasn't the case. There was a lot of good and interesting background information and I felt myself just fall right into the story. I was so invested. I definitely want to check out more of this author's work.

Ghost of Christmas Past by Shaen Layle
Mind games, a twisted trip down memory lane, and a kidnapped son made this suspense-filled novella hard to put down. It was one of my favorites of the collection. I'm definitely gonna be looking for more from this author.

The Confession of John Doe by Loree Lough
A man with no fingerprints is found on the side of the road. Nobody knows who he is and he'll play along, feigning amnesia for as long as he can, while hiding at an Amish community from the guys who roughed him up.

I don't read Amish fiction, so this story wasn't really my cup of tea. But it was well written and I'm sure people who enjoy Amish stories will love it.

Killing Christmas (A Pastor Pembroke Mystery) by Nancy Mehl
The Arkansas River Strangler is back after almost thirty years and is demanding that Pastor Pembroke tell his story or there will be dire consequences.

I enjoyed this story. It was kinda dark, but I really appreciated the little bits of humor sprinkled throughout. It helped to lighten the mood. The characters were great and I'd love to read more about them.

Deadly Drive by Cara Putman
After receiving a call informing her that her twin brother was murdered, Joci goes to D.C to identify his body. What follows next is a mad dash rush to find answers.

This story just reiterated the fact that I need to read more from this author. It was fast paced and intriguing. I was very invested in the outcome. And while somethings were a little confusing and unbelievable, I still really enjoyed it and found myself rushing to find out what was really going on.

Dangerous Christmas by Lynn Shannon
Holly Miller suspects she has a stalker and after narrowly escaping an attack, she's convinced. Can she find out who's stalking her and why before things turn deadly?

This was action-packed right from the get-go. It did slow down a bit in places, but that didn't make it any less engaging. The mystery was solid and had a shocking twist I didn't see coming. I thought the romance was very sweet, if a tad rushed. All in all, I liked it a lot and am excited to check out this author's other stuff.

Yuletide Protector by Virginia Vaughan
When a woman with her name is murdered, Jenna Sloan knows she was the intended victim. She's been stalked and harassed by an ex and has to stop this before anyone else gets hurt.

A shocking opening chapter led to a fast-paced and danger-filled read. The plot was really good and held my interest, though there were a few times I felt like screaming at Jenna for some of her poor decisions.

Review: Serving Up Love: A Four-in-One Harvey House Brides Collection by Tracie Peterson, Karen Witemeyer, Regina Jennings, & Jen Turano

About the Book
Bestselling novelist Tracie Peterson joins Karen Witemeyer, Regina Jennings, and Jen Turano in this collection of four novellas, each featuring a Harvey Girl heroine. From Kansas to Texas, the Grand Canyon to New Mexico, the stories cross the country with tales of sweet romance and entertaining history.

In Karen Witemeyer's "More Than a Pretty Face," a young woman works her hardest to escape poor choices from her youth. Tracie Peterson offers "A Flood of Love," where reuniting with an old flame after more than a decade offers unexpected results. Regina Jennings's "Intrigue a la Mode" delights with a tale of a young woman determined to help support her family, despite warnings of danger nearby. And Jen Turano's "Grand Encounters" heads to the Grand Canyon with a tale of a society belle intent on finding a new life for herself.

My Thoughts

Serving Up Love was a great collection of historical novellas. I loved learning about the Harvey Houses and Harvey Girls. I didn't know anything about them beforehand, so I found it all really interesting. If you're a fan of historical romance, I highly recommend checking out this sweet collection.

A Flood of Love by Tracie Peterson was a story of second chance love between old flames Gretchen and Dirk who get a little help along the way from his rambunctious daughter Katiann. I loved this sweet story and can't believe it's my first time reading anything by Tracie Peterson. It flowed really well and was the perfect length. It didn't feel too short at all. I loved the characters and enjoyed getting to know some real history. (4.5 Stars)

More Than a Pretty Face by Karen Witemeyer was a novella of overcoming the past and embracing hope and the future God has planned. I had a hard time connecting with the characters in this one, but the story had a good message and, in the end, I liked it. (3 Stars)

Intrigue a la Mode by Regina Jennings was so much fun! I pretty much loved everything about it. The characters were wonderful, the mystery was intriguing, and I loved the undercover elements. It's my first book by this author and I'm really excited to check out some of her other books. This was a prequel to Jennings' new series and you can be sure that the first book is high on my wish list. (5 Stars)

Grand Encounters by Jen Turano was an entertaining and hilarious read that had me doubled over in laughter numerous times. I can always count on Turano's books to brighten my day and bring a smile to my face. This one did just that. It was pretty much perfection. (5 Stars)

My Thoughts

To Gain Forever was a great story. Sweet, inspirational, and full of heart, I loved every moment. I was drawn in from the very beginning and instantly became invested in Trey and Karianne's lives. I really enjoyed getting to know them and following them on their journey of healing and newfound love. There was a great spiritual message woven throughout about learning to trust God's plan. I loved that. It's a quick read that I gobbled up as fast as I could. I didn't want it to end. I highly recommend it to fans of contemporary romance.

Love is in the Air Boxset

I'm so excited to share about the Love is in the Air boxset! Isn't the cover gorgeous?

About the Book
Love is in the Air (5 Contemporary Christian Romances)

All you have to do is look up.

This collection of five brand new romances is sure to send your heart soaring. Journey from Canada to Georgia and Colorado to Paris by way of Michigan as these couples find love is in the air. All they had to do was look up.

First Class Wrong Flight by Laura V. Hilton:
Candi Walker is excited to attend her former college roommate’s wedding. At least it’s a direct flight across the country and the potential of messing up is next to impossible…until she crashes into a handsome pilot. Now it’s a dream-come-true or her worst nightmare.

Alex Kuklewski has one last flight before he attends his stepsister’s wedding. Desperate to escape his tagalong ex-girlfriend’s clutches, Alex prays that his future wife would drop into his path. And she does. Too bad he and Candi aren’t headed to the same destination.

Emotional baggage on both sides exceeds the weight limit, and the flight to happily-ever-after seems grounded. What will it take for them to launch true love into the air?

A Castle in the Clouds by Candee Fick:
Aspiring romance novelist Miranda Scott has her head in the clouds and her nose buried in a book. Raised by a single mother, extravagant trips to castles overseas are only a fairy-tale…until a co-worker’s accident has her boarding a plane to teach creative writing on an all-expenses-paid school-sponsored trip. Family responsibilities kept Joshua Clark close to home, but it’s finally time for the history teacher to spread his wings. Hopefully his time chaperoning an overseas trip and seeing history in person will reveal what the next chapter holds.

However, falling in love surrounded by teenagers was never the plan.

Flying Into Love by Kathleen Rouser:
Unable to say no when others need her, Talia Sampson took on her deceased aunt’s advice column and the care of her special needs niece. Then new veteran, Ben Tanner, shows up unexpected on her doorstep. Hurt many times, he wonders where home is. Talia isn’t happy finding a hot-air balloon with him, but she treasures the old journal with it. Ben hopes restoring her family’s antique will please her, until he discovers a secret that shatters his trust. And Talia hates flying.

Will she trust God—and Ben—enough to go airborne?

To Gain Forever by Tanya Eavenson:
Karianne Bennett, small-town wedding coordinator, has always believed in happily-ever-afters. That is, for everyone but herself. Her fiancĂ©’s alcohol-related death put an end to her own dreams and turned her career into a weekly reminder of all she’s lost. Hope comes when she adopts a retired service dog and a newcomer catches her eye.

If he can land the account for a hot-air balloon festival in an out-of-state town, he’ll be that much closer to achieving his lifelong goal. But his dreams never included a beautiful dog walker who also happens to be the stranger he’s been praying over for years.

Written in the Clouds by Kathleen Friesen:
A mysterious cloud formation, a nerve-wracking introduction for JR and Serena, an unexpected reunion for Jim and Blythe, a few traumatic memories, a pilot for the company plane, and another afraid of flying. Mix them together…and what in the world is God up to? Is it love at first flight?

Can love—for two generations—be written in the clouds?

Review: Royally Yours by Melissa Tagg, Betsy St. Amant, Liz Johnson, Ashley Clark

My Thoughts
I absolutely loved visiting the enchanting town of Tinsel, Vermont. What a charming place full of wonderful characters and holiday cheer. I enjoyed the royal aspect and the fact that Tinsel is a media-and-paparazzi-free place where famous people can go to relax and just be normal. What a cool idea for a collection like this. I hope there will be more tales from Tinsel next Christmas.

One Royal Christmas by Melissa Tagg
Jonah, the king of Concordia, temporarily abdicates the throne and heads to Tinsel to recharge. To get away from all his troubles, stresses, and grief. To find himself. When he gets there, he meets town librarian Rowan. (And what an amusing first meeting it was!) Rowan's taken over the running of the library after her Grandma passed away. The library that's falling apart and is being threatened by the City Council to be moved from the beloved historical cottage to a brand new place downtown. Which is practically like destroying her grandma's legacy. Sparks fly between the librarian and the bookish royal. What follows is one of the best Christmas stories I've ever read. It's pretty much perfect. Rowan and Jonah were so likable. So cute together. I loved it!

The Reluctant Princess by Betsy St. Amant
Wanting some independence from the expectations and duties of royal life, some freedom to pursue the things she's passionate about, and tired of feeling like her voice isn't heard, Princess Eleanor heads to Tinsel. Liam's in Tinsel to escape the media-crazed dramatics of his famous family. He's hiding under the name of Miles and the job of chauffeur to Princess Eleanor. There's a definite connection between the two, but can they overcome their differences and secrets to find a happily ever after? This story was predictable, but sweet. Not my favorite of the collection, but not bad.

A Royal Wonderland by Liz Johnson
Prince Andrew, running from a bad breakup that the media won't stop hounding him about, has come to Tinsel and is staying at an old friend's house. Hoping the bad press will die down if he's away from the spotlight, he's helping his friend decorate his house for the annual Candy Cane Lane Contest. When his friend is called away on an emergency, Andrew enlists the help of the intriguing hardware store owner Charlotte to help him finish the decorating. My second favorite story in this collection, I loved Charlie and Andrew. They were such a fun couple. I also loved Charlie's ornery Grandma too. Such a feisty lady that reminded me of my own Grandma.

A Tinsel Holiday by Ashley Clark
Princess Beatrix fell for American journalist Tyler James a couple years ago and still hasn't gotten over him. On a tour of America, their paths cross again in Tinsel, Vermont. Maybe this chance meeting is a possibility for a fresh start. This story was okay. It was a bit wordy and didn't flow very well, but it was a cute read.

Book Beginnings + Friday 56: Royally Yours by Melissa Tagg, Betsy St. Amant, Liz Johnson, and Ashley Clark

Book Beginnings is a weekly meme hosted by Rose City Reader that asks you to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you're reading. Friday 56 is hosted by Freda's Voice and asks you to grab a book (any book), turn to page 56 or 56% in your ereader and share a non-spoilery sentence or two.

This week I'm featuring Royally Yours, a collection of four novellas by different authors set in the media-free town of Tinsel, Vermont. The perfect place for celebrities and royals to get away for the holidays and have some normalcy.

About the Book
Tinsel, Vermont is known for its no-paparazzi policy and Christmas decorations that are fit for a queen. This holiday season, join four royals on a stroll through town square as they each find their Christmas wishes for a happily-ever-after...tiaras optional.

One Royal Christmas by Melissa Tagg
In the wake of the worst year of his life, His Majesty Jonah Harrison Archer Davies makes the drastic decision to temporarily abdicate the throne and travel to Tinsel, Vermont, in hopes of finding the peace and privacy he needs to heal, discover his vision for his country . . . and somehow believe himself worthy of the crown. But when he meets charming librarian Rowan Bell,on a quest of her own to save Tinsel’s quaint cottage library, he’s more torn than ever before as duty to the crown collides with an enchanting Christmastime romance he didn’t see coming.

The Reluctant Princess by Betsy St. Amant
Princess Eleanor is weary of the protocol that comes with the crown, along with her lack of voice on causes she holds dear. She takes a holiday in the safety of Tinsel, Vermont, to determine her next steps–and certainly didn’t mean to fall for the average Joe assigned as her chauffeur. But Miles Channing isn’t so average, after all. He’s Liam Neal, part of the notoriously famous American Neal Family, and is hiding with secrets of his own. When Christmas comes and the truth shakes her life like a snow globe, Eleanor must decide once and for all where she’ll be standing when the snowflakes settle.

A Royal Wonderland by Liz Johnson
With his public break up still making tabloid headlines,Prince Andrew Tennesley hopes a few weeks in Tinsel will help the gossips move on and give him a chance to propose a program the people of his country need. When Andrew is left to decorate a home for Tinsel’s Christmas lights contest, he has to rely on pretty hardware store owner Charlotte Hudson for help. Charlie doesn’t mind hanging twinkle lights with him. She just isn’t interested in the spotlight. But as they set out to create a winter wonderland, Andrew has her wondering if she’s been hiding out in Tinsel too and missing out on the best gift of the season–love.

A Tinsel Holiday by Ashley Clark
Princess Beatrix has already met the love of her life. Two years ago, an American journalist named Tyler was assigned to write a feature story about her. But the twenty-four hours that followed changed the two of them forever. Now, Tyler has returned home to Tinsel and traded his career in journalism to run The Melody Inn. Though the quirky mayor and eccentric town traditions are a far cry from the world travels he once enjoyed,Tyler has settled into small-town life and made peace with the knowledge he will never see Beatrix again. But when an American tour brings Princess Beatrix to Tinsel, she and Tyler will have another twenty-four hours together and one more chance at love. Only this time, with gingerbread and mistletoe.

Book Beginning (From the first story in the collection, One Royal Christmas by Melissa Tagg)
Jonah Davies' signature on the document spread before him could change the course of a nation's history.

Friday 56 (From the third story in the collection, A Royal Wonderland by Liz Johnson)
Charlotte Hudson could spot a fake from a hundred yards. She could identify fake antiques, fake smiles, and fake currency. Not that there was much - or really any - of the latter circulating in Tinsel, Vermont, population 3,574.

Review: Protecting Tanner Hollow: Four Romantic Suspense Novellas by Lynette Eason

About the Book
Four nail-biting novellas in one!

Lethal Homecoming

Nolan Tanner never got over Kallie Ainsworth's sudden, unexplained departure. Now when he comes to her rescue after an attempt on her life, all the old feelings come rushing back.

Lethal Conspiracy

When professional fundraiser Lillian Maloney sees her father's campaign manager commit murder, she goes on the run from the men he hires to kill her. A close call brings firefighter Jason Tanner to the rescue, but the killer is closing in . . .

Lethal Secrets

Someone wants Honor McBride dead. When Eli Murphy helps her change a flat tire and discovers the danger Honor is in, he longs to help--but Eli has secrets of his own that could get them all killed.

Lethal Agenda

When Detective Derek St. John rescues a woman he's met only once before--and has never been able to forget--he finds himself falling for her. But he'll have to keep Claire Montgomery alive if they're to have a future together.

My Thoughts

What a great collection! These fast paced, action packed suspense novellas will leave you breathless and glued to the pages. They each had the perfect combination of romance and suspense, and each one left me guessing until the reveal. The first three stories were previously published, but the fourth one is brand new and features Derek St. John from Eason's Blue Justice series. While I enjoyed each one of these novellas a great deal, I do have to say that Derek's was my favorite. I was so happy that he finally got his time in the spotlight.

Lethal Homecoming
This was short, but it packed a big punch. There was a lot of family drama and secrets. A very compelling read.

Lethal Conspiracy
I love a good conspiracy, so with the title Lethal Conspiracy, I was sure to like this story. And I did! There's so much excitement and so many twists and turns. My only complaint is that the relationship seemed to move a little fast, but it is a novella so I guess I shouldn't be too surprised.

Lethal Secrets
This started off a little slower paced than the others, but by the end it really picked up. The kids were adorable and I loved Lady the dog. This ended up being my second favorite of the collection.

Lethal Agenda
This was Derek St. John's story and, gosh, was it good! What can I say about it other than the fact that it was as close to perfect as a novella can get? It's my favorite of the collection, by far. It didn't feel too short, although I wouldn't have minded if it had just kept on going. I loved getting to visit the whole St. John clan again. What a great way to end the series!

All in all, Protecting Tanner Hollow was a can't-put-down thrill ride that I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys romantic suspense.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion.

Review: Summer of Suspense: Sixteen Tales By Some of Christian Fiction’s Most Popular Mystery and Suspense Authors

About the Book
Long Days. Hot Nights. Deadly Secrets.

Christian Suspense Anthology!

Start your summer off right with 16 gripping and never-before published tales of Christian suspense from today's most popular mystery and suspense authors.

Join Mary Alford, Christy Barritt, Patricia Bradley, Vannetta Chapman, Mary Ellis, Debby Giusti, Ruth Hartzler, Shaen Layle, Amy Lillard, Ruth Logan Herne, Loree Lough, Elizabeth Ludwig, Nancy Mehl, Serena B. Miller, Samantha Price, Alana Terry on a dangerous journey filled with mystery, suspense, and faith that that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.

My Thoughts

Summer of Suspense is a fantastic collection of short stories from sixteen different authors. It featured some old favorites and many who were new to me, quite a few of which are now going on my wishlist. A few of my absolute favorites were Afterglow by Christy Barritt, Fading into the Night by Vannetta Chapman, On the Run by Debby Guisti, and Murder in Sugarcreek by Serena B. Miller. But, really, I enjoyed the vast majority of the stories. There were a few that weren't really my cup of tea, but I'm sure others will enjoy them.

Storm Warnings by Mary Alford
4 Stars

Framed for the deaths of her teammates and sought out as one of the most wanted terrorists, Casey Montgomery has hidden herself away in the remote mountains of Alaska. Trying to find a way to clear her name, she finally feels safe for the first time in awhile. Until she finds a set of footprints that aren't hers close to her cabin. Have the people who framed her finally found her? Will she make it out alive?

There's a lot of action and excitement packed into this short story. It was great! It was my first time reading anything by Mary Alford and I'm excited to read more from her.

Afterglow (Lantern Beach Escape, Book One) by Christy Barritt
5 Stars

In Lantern Beach for their honeymoon, Grayson finds out that his new wife just might be a murderer. The Rachel he knows would never be capable of murder, but apparently there's secrets she doesn't want shared. As an investigative reporter, he vows to get to the bottom of it all and find out the truth about his wife.

Afterglow is another compelling and impossible to put down story from Christy Barritt. It completely held my attention and even after finishing it, I'm still thinking about it. I can't forget to mention the cameos from a couple of original Lantern Beach characters. Loved seeing them pop up.

Code Pink – Stolen Baby by Patricia Bradley
3.5 Stars

Holly Jordan's newborn son was kidnapped right after the devastating car wreck that killed her husband. Five years later, she thinks she's found a way to locate her son. Will she finally be reunited with him? Or is this just another fruitless search that'll end in more heartbreak?

The truly compelling prologue had me completely invested and the suspense kept me glued to the pages. Everything happened a bit too fast, but I guess that's to be expected in a story this short. Though I wish it had been a little bit longer, I did have a good time reading it and am interested in reading other books from this author.

Fading into the Night by Vannetta Chapman
5 Stars

A cyber terrorist is planning a devastating attack and Nora Brooks is sent to stop him. She thinks she's found him at an Amish farm in Shipshewana. But who she actually finds is the farm owner Benjamin Lapp. He agrees to help her find the madman before the terrorist's plan can go into effect.

I don't read much Amish fiction, but maybe I should. This was so good! One of my favorites in the collection. There was a great sense of urgency from beginning to end that had me speeding through the pages.

Missing by Mary Ellis
3 Stars

Lily Sellers is back home in Plum Creek, Ohio after graduating from college. She's hoping to reconnect with some of her Amish friends, but finds out a few of the women have abruptly left town. They left notes saying they'd be back someday, but Lily's sure something sinister is going on. And she intends to find out with the help of FBI Agent Marc Harris.

The mystery was solid and held my interest, but wrapped up way too quickly. It felt very abrupt.

On the Run by Debby Giusti
5 Stars

Annalise Bonner is staying at her sister's house when her niece's baby monitor picks up a signal from the next door neighbor's system. What she hears, and then sees when she looks out the window, chills her, sending her on a mad dash run for her life.

This story grabbed me and didn't let go until the exciting conclusion. Loved the characters, the chase, pretty much everything about it. What a stellar suspense. I want more!

Wedding Day Revenge by Rachel J. Good
4 Stars

It's almost Benuel's wedding day and someone is threatening his bride-to-be, Mari. But the person they suspect is in jail, safely locked up behind bars. Or is she?

I really enjoyed this Amish story. The suspense and danger kept building and I became more and more absorbed as the minutes ticked ever closer to the wedding.

Inscription (Relic Hunters Taskforce Prequel) by Ruth Hartzler

College professor, and Latin and Greek scholar, Dr. Abigail Spencer finds herself in a precarious situation when dangerous men force her to translate an ancient Greek tablet and help them find some priceless Biblical artifacts.

What an intriguing premise! It was such an exciting adventure. I didn't want it to end! I can't wait to check out the rest of the series!

Death in Earthen Vessels by Shaen Layle
4 Stars

John Hollingsworth had to retire from the police force after his stroke and is now staying with his sister at her lakeside retreat. He has suspicions that something nefarious is going on and intends to investigate.

The mystery was a little slow to get started, but I didn't mind it. There was a sense of impending danger that kept building to the shocking conclusion. John was easy to like and I wouldn't mind reading more about him. I'll be adding this author to my watchlist.

The Secret Life of Emma Evans by Loree Lough
2.5 Stars

Emma Evans was found dead in her bathtub. She made many enemies, so the suspect list was long. But her death was ruled a suicide. Her ex-fiance Brady Muir is positive that's not true and he intends to prove it.

This story was okay. Not my favorite, but not my least favorite either. Spoilers are preventing me from explaining the issues I had with it.

Cold Creek Manor by Elizabeth Ludwig

Peyton thought she'd run far enough away that her past wouldn't catch up to her. But it's finally found her and danger is closing in quick.

I sped through this story. I wish it had been slightly longer, but overall, it was really good.

Chasing Shadows by Nancy Mehl

Forced into a vacation, FBI Special Agent Kaely Quinn is relaxing at a remote cabin when she's awakened in the middle of the night by a bloodcurdling scream. Now her time off has just turned into a working vacation as she tries to figure out what's going on.

I've enjoyed the Kaely Quinn series, so far, and was excited to read this short story. It was great! I thought I had it figured out, but then there was a curveball that completely shot my theory down. What a great twist.

Murder in Sugarcreek (An Accidental Adventure of Doreen Sizemore) by Serena B. Miller
5 Stars

This was the shortest story in the collection and the funniest. It had a cozy mystery-vibe to it which was a nice change of pace. I adored Doreen. She's a spunky 70-something year old lady who gets roped into accompanying her cousin Nola Belle into meeting her new out-of-state boyfriend. Along the way she stumbles upon a mystery.

This had me literally laughing out loud. Doreen is something else! What a hoot! I haven't laughed that hard or that much in a long time. It was just what I needed. I'm definitely gonna be checking out the other books featuring Doreen.

Breakout (Gretel Koch Jewel Thief: Prequel) by Samantha Price
4.5 Stars

Infamous jewel thief Gretel Koch has landed herself in prison. All she can think about is escaping, retrieving the jewels, and getting revenge on her ex-boyfriend who turned on her and is testifying against her.

This story was one of my most highly anticipated in this collection and it did not disappoint. It's fast paced and kept me guessing. It's a great prequel and now I'm even more excited for the series!

Terror in the Cabin by Alana Terry
2 Stars

So I was expecting a story at a remote cabin in the woods, but it actually takes place in a completely different kind of cabin. It was a unique setting that added a lot of tension and anxiety. Willow's the main character and she tells the story as if she's having a conversation with the reader. That was a cool idea, though she was a bit off-putting, at times. There were a couple of times I thought about not finishing it, but I'm glad I did. The second half of the story definitely picked up the pace and I enjoyed it much more than the first part.
