Review: Dial K for Kiss by Tanya Eavenson

About the Book

Millionaire Julia Morgan isn’t a fan of the limelight, but when a neighboring city blocks her community garden expansion request, she’s left with few options for moving the project forward, all of them uncomfortable. Radio personality Drew Larsen has spent years waiting for an opening in the top-spot morning show of the hottest radio station in town. When it happens, he throws his hat in the ring with a crazy idea. He didn’t expect it to catch like wildfire, or for the station manager to up the ante. If Drew can find his first kiss and convince her to date him for all the world to see, the job is his.

She wants to help others. He wants his dream job. Can they make their hearts’ desires come true before their untold story is revealed?

Dial K for Kiss is a heartwarming Christian contemporary romance, and part of the You Are on the Air series. All books in the series are standalone and can be read in any order. Order your copy today!

MY THOUGHTS

What a sweet second chance romance! I was instantly invested in these characters' lives and couldn't put it down.

I liked Julia and Andrew. She's quiet, soft-spoken, and hates the spotlight, while he's loud, boisterous, and the host of a popular radio show. They were complete opposites, but, I think, that’s one of the things that made them so great together. I admired Julia's passion for helping others and her commitment to the community garden. Despite the fact that she was a millionaire, she was relatable and down-to-earth.

I thought the whole idea behind the “Kiss and Tell Time” radio segment was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed the story of Julia and Andrew's first kiss. It was so sweet! I loved seeing them reconnect and get to know each other again.

I absolutely loved this story and highly recommend it to fans of inspirational romance!

Book Beginnings, First Line Friday, & Friday 56: Just Don't Fall (Sweater Weather #1) by Emma St. Clair

Book Beginnings is a weekly meme hosted by Rose City Reader that asks you to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you're reading. Friday 56 is hosted by Freda's Voice and asks you to grab a book (any book), turn to page 56 or 56% in your ereader and share a non-spoilery sentence or two. I'm also linking up with Carrie at Reading is My Superpower for First Line Friday. (Friday 56 is on hiatus right now, but I'll still be participating.)

This week I'm featuring Just Don't Fall (Sweater Weather #1) by Emma St. Clair. I'm a little late to the party, but I'm finally reading Just Don't Fall. It's so good and so funny!

About the Book
Before Logan Barnes was hockey’s hottest bad boy, he was my brother’s best friend … and my first crush. Oh, yeah--and the guy who ghosted me and broke my teenage heart.

Now Logan is back in Harvest Hollow, but not willingly. Recovering from an injury (and some bad press), he’s stuck playing for our minor league team.

Which means I’ll be working with him almost daily.

As the hockey team's social media manager, it’s my job to wrangle all the guys into filming TikTok trending videos. But Logan doesn’t want to be wrangled.

Turns out … neither does my heart.

Because my old crush never died.

And when Logan becomes my accidental fake boyfriend, those old feelings flare hot enough to melt the ice.

But this is all totally one-sided. Totally fake. Isn't it?

No matter what signals he seems to be giving me or how real things start to feel, I know Logan’s not home for good.

I survived Logan leaving me once. But this time, I’m not so sure my heart will recover …

Just Don't Fall is a small town, closed door hockey romcom with all the fake dating, brother's best friend vibes. You'll get smoking chemistry and characters to root for but NO spice. (Yes, you read that right--a low spice hockey romance.) Perfect for fans of sports romance who want a less heat.

Book Beginnings / First Line Friday
"I signed a contract to play hockey. Not dance."

Friday 56
Logan's right about being in the moment. This is one of those where I wish I could hit pause. The kind of moment I want to revel in, burrowing down like its a warm, comfy bed where I can shut out the whole rest of the world.

Review: Lake Shore Wandering (Redemption Shores #1) by Jennifer Rodewald

About the Book
Is love worth the gamble? And if so, will memory-restored Bennett still feel the same?

Hazel is working on a plan to keep her peaceful, remote life. When Bennet shows up pretending to be something he’s not, she knows she’s running out of time. Luckily for her, he hit his head and can’t remember a thing. With sudden inspiration thanks to an eighties rom-com, she’s got a whole new plan.

Convince Bennett they’re married? Check. Convince Bennett he belongs in Elk Canyon with her? That’s another task altogether . . . one that just might end up gambling her heart.

(Available in Kindle Unlimited at time of posting)

MY THOUGHTS

What a great start to a new series! Hazel was very much an outdoorsy country girl, while Bennett was very much a fancy city boy. Polar opposites, to say the least! So, you can just imagine the sparks that fly, right? There were so many hilarious, laugh-out-loud moments, but this was also a sweet and tender read. I loved every second of it and didn't want it to end.

I love that this series is following the same characters in each book. I’m excited to dive deeper into their lives, see them grow, and watch their relationships develop even more. I’m very eager for the next book in the series. I'm curious about what's in store for Hazel and Bennet next, and I need to know more about Hunter and Janie. What’s their story? What's the history behind their animosity towards each other? Why is Hunter so reluctant to go back home? I need to know!

This was originally part of The 80s Rom-Com Club box set, but the author has updated and expanded the story. I loved it the first time I read it, and I loved it even more this go-around.

About the Book
Changes are coming to Elk Canyon Lake. Will anything survive the upheaval?

As Bennett and Hazel work to find something normal in their unexpected romance, their worlds slip sideways all over again. They know they've found love, but can it endure despite their very different personalities and life outlooks? On top of that, there are so many profound changes . . .

Bennett is working to establish a new life in Montana, and Hazel's brother Hunter is coming back. To stay.

Hunter Wallace never had an intention to return to Elk Canyon Lake, even if the woman who held his heart had stubbornly remained there. But after a medical discharge sends his life skittering, he has run into a dead-end. The lake might be all he's got, so he's bound and determined to make something of it.

Janie Truitt has proven she's got the grit it takes to be her own boss. Her business is flourishing, as much as possible in tiny Luna, Montana. She's steady, and if she doesn't think about Hunter, she's happy. But the not thinking about Hunter is going to be difficult when he rumbles back into her world.

Come back to the majestic beauty of Elk Canyon Lake, a remote and breathtaking wonder hidden in the stunning Montana Mountains. There you'll find unexpected romance, the redemption of broken pasts, and hope dawning anew.

Review: Wormwood Abbey (The Secrets of Ormdale #1) by Christina Baehr

About the Book
As a Victorian clergyman’s daughter, Edith Worms has seen everything — until a mythical salamander tumbles out of the fireplace into her lap.

When a letter arrives from estranged relatives, Edith is swept away to a crumbling gothic Abbey in the wilds of Yorkshire. Wormwood Abbey isn't just full of curious beasts and ancient family secrets: there’s also a tall, dark, and entirely too handsome neighbour who is strangely reluctant for her to leave.

An unexpected bond with her prickly cousin Gwendolyn gives Edith a reason to stay in this strange world — especially when it turns out that Edith herself may have a role in guarding her family's legacy.

But not all of the mysteries of Ormdale are small enough to fit in her lap...and some of them have teeth.

WORMWOOD ABBEY, Book 1 of The Secrets of Ormdale, is a cosy gothic novel of mystery, dragons, and the perils of friendship, perfect for fans of Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries and Maria Grace.

MY THOUGHTS

Oh my goodness, y'all! This book was so good! I loved the cozy, gothic vibe. It was such a charming and enchanting read! This book came to life, and I didn't want to leave the pages of the story. I was completely entranced.

I fell in love with the setting and the characters. There was an air of mystery to the abbey that kept me intrigued, and I was very eager to learn its secrets. Edith was a great leading lady. I thought it was so cool that she wrote detective novels. And I loved how supportive her family was. I really enjoyed how fleshed out the secondary characters were. And I can't fail to mention Francis! I wouldn't mind having a dragon like him as my own. He's awesome!

I loved every second of this story, and I know I'm gonna want to read it again and again. I'm so glad it's the start of a series! I highly recommend it to fans of historical fantasy.

One glance told her everything she needed to know.
He was no hunter, that was certain. And Hazel Wallace, though an undeniably odd duck, was not a fool. This man was up to something.

Friday 56
Darkness quickly closed the valley in a chilled cloak. Bennett quivered at the completeness of it. Black penetrated everything, covering the layers of hills that surrounded the valley, the mountains beyond that, the lake, the cabin at his back, and even the woman beside him.

Review: Havoc (A Breed Apart: Legacy #1) by Ronie Kendig

About the Book
A soldier, a Malinois, and a stuntwoman walk onto a TV set . . .

Former Special Forces operator Sergeant Crew Gatlin takes everything in stride, even the career-ending incident that separated him from the Army, half a leg, and his beloved working dog, Havoc K027. Putting his life back together and lying low, he takes a job with A Breed Apart and is unexpectedly reunited with Havoc. It’s too good to be true—and the proof is in their first assignment: to work as a K-9 team for a television drama in Los Angeles. Miffed at being relegated to TV fodder, he’s willing to pay the price when he sees the stuntwoman.

Being a stunt double allows Vienna Foxcroft to fulfill her acting dream—with a side of MMA—and stay out of the limelight. The same one that plagued her childhood and put her through a nightmare scenario. Now, her tight-knit stunt team are the only ones she trusts. Then in walks Mr. Mountain-of-Muscle and his tough-as-nails dog, and Vienna has a bad feeling her life is about to turn upside down.

Ticked as they head overseas for a location shoot in Turkey, Crew guts it up—after all, he has Havoc again. Okay, and yeah—Vienna is going, too. When an attack sends the cast fleeing into the streets of Turkey, Vienna must face the demons of her past or be devoured by them. And Crew and Havoc are tested like never before.

Experience the high-octane thrill ride that is the first book in the A Breed Apart: Legacy series.

MY THOUGHTS

I loved the original A Breed Apart series. They were the first Ronie Kendig books I read, and they were what made me such a big fan of hers. So to say I was excited for this spinoff series is a bit of an understatement. This first installment did not disappoint. It had everything I love: action-packed suspense, a lightning-fast pace, laugh-out-loud humor, a swoonworthy romance, and wonderful and likable characters (human and animal alike).

Crew and Vienna had amazing chemistry! The sparks were flying right from the start, and I was here for it! While I’m usually more of a fan of slow-burn romances, the fast-paced nature of this one didn’t bother me. It worked perfectly and felt very natural.

Havoc was awesome. I loved seeing the bond between him and Crew. The absolute love and trust between the MWD and handler was something special.

I can’t recommend this book highly enough. There was danger, intrigue, and suspense around every corner, making for a fast-paced and unputdownable read. I loved it and can’t wait for book two!

I received an advanced copy of this book and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion.

Can't Wait Wednesday: Julia Monroe Begins Again by Rebekah Millet

Can't Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Wishful Endings that spotlights and discusses the books we're excited about that we've yet to read. Generally, they're books that are yet to be released. It's based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.

This week I'm featuring Julia Monroe Begins Again by Rebekah Millet releasing October 24.

About the Book
Samuel was back. It seemed unfair to be blindsided. And in church no less. Shouldn't there be a commandment about that? Thou shalt not step foot inside thy ex's place of worship.

Julia Monroe has just turned forty and has high hopes for a fresh start after the last decade of her life abruptly left her a young widow and a single mom. With both her boys off to college, she can finally focus on expanding her New Orleans-based cleaning business. Julia is ready for new beginnings--but God has other plans. Samuel Reed, the ruggedly handsome Green Beret who shattered her heart over twenty years ago, has returned to town and is the kind of distraction she never saw coming.

After their first interaction in years leaves her mind spinning and her emotions out of control, Julia knows she needs to avoid him if she wants any chance of preventing history from repeating itself, but her meddling best friend keeps throwing them together. And now it seems inevitable that the man who was hard to forget might just be impossible to resist.

Review: Unexpected Encounters of a Draconic Kind and Other Stories by Beka Gremikova

About the Book
Encounters. Whether with magic or science, expected or unexpected, they can change our minds, our destinies, even our world…

In this collection of twenty-two short tales, journey across multiple genres alongside various characters, including:

~a mother who gathers dragon scales to provide for her family despite a perilous jungle and her own self-doubt;

~a young half-human, half-mermaid girl on the search for her father with murderous soldiers on her heels;

~an opera singer-turned-ghost-hunter attempting to thwart a Phantom who just won’t stop interfering with her act;

~a family at risk of losing their humanity to the Moon as its magic wreaks a monstrous change within them;

~and an alien on a rescue mission to save her best friend’s children from those who wish them harm.

Full of comedy and tragedy, heartache and hope, monsters and magic, these stories are an encounter that just might change you too…

MY THOUGHTS

These short stories packed a big punch! The author has a talent for bringing forth strong emotions in just a few words. I was left in awe by how much of an emotional impact each of these stories had. Quite a few left me in tears, while others had me laughing out loud. One of the things I loved was that each story had surprising twists and unexpected turns that I never saw coming.

Some of my favorites were: Just a Hench, Change of Heart, The Grave Dancers, Deep Dive, The Mermaid’s Soul, A Taste of Grace, Unexpected Encounters of a Draconic Kind, and Sir Gawain and the Green Thumb. ALL of the stories were great, though. There's not a bad one in the bunch.

These stories are just the right size if you’re looking for a quick read in spare moments, but the collection is also great to binge-read all in one sitting. It's a must-read for fans of fantasy and sci-fi. I highly recommend it!

Unexpected Encounters of a Draconic Kind: Amika has the dangerous job of a dragon scale gatherer. She’s not having much luck this year, but an unexpected encounter might just change her luck. I loved her determination and commitment to her job and her family legacy. This story was very moving.

A Taste of Grace: This is a story of hope, forgiveness, and second chances amidst the struggle of addiction. Another moving and poignant tale.

A Spoonful of Spice: A young girl tries to be helpful by making the food offering by herself. Things don't go as expected. I loved the message of this story. The obvious, safe route isn’t always the best. Sometimes it’s good to take a chance because you never know if something wonderful will come out of it.

Deep Dive: Iris goes skydiving but really should’ve read all of the fine print first. This had a major twist I never saw coming! Loved it!

The Grave Dancers: The world-building here was fantastic; I’d love another story set in this world. One of my favorites of the collection. A bittersweet yet hopeful ghost story.

Mer-child: I really admired Tula. She was such a brave girl who had to endure so much, yet she hoped for more. Strove for more... and went out in search of it.

Tough Crowd: “Laughter heals sooner - but honesty heals truer.” It isn’t all laughs and smiles for Jessmina the jester. This was a really good reminder not to judge others.

Tipsy Turvy Tiger: At a magical circus, a talking tiger has a request for a killer clown.

Just a Hench: This was my favorite story in the collection. It's a surprisingly heartwarming tale of a young woman trying to get a job as a villain’s henchwoman. I’d love more stories about this character or set in this world.

Change of Heart: “You fear the wolf, because that is what you’ve been taught.” This was another favorite of mine. I loved the hauntingly personal way it was written.

Down in Flames: A veteran Magickal Protections Officer is on a mission with an impulsive rookie. I was so intrigued by the drakonix. It was such an interesting creature!

Prince of Bees: Ivan, a Prince who’s always been underestimated, made fun of, and thought to not be good enough, attempts to lift the curse targeting the Honey Princess.

Of Masks and Macarenas: This was a humorous tale that took place at a haunted opera house. Had me laughing out loud.

Retrieval: My heart hurt for the characters in this emotional sci-fi story. I'm so glad there was some hope sprinkled in there.

Tiger Bright: A tiger-shifter reluctantly but bravely goes on an important hunt. This was bittersweet and had a very surprising twist.

Sea Claim: Will the sea accept or reject Galia? Another mermaid story and this one had me bawling my eyes out.

The Perfumers of Qukamar: Shebalik needs help removing a rather potent curse. This story was so vibrant, I could almost smell it!

Sir Gawain and the Green Thumb:
This hilarious reimagining had me laughing out loud. I’d love to read more about Sir Gawain’s gardening misadventures.

The Screwtech Letters: Another funny one, this one told in the style of The Screwtape Letters. A gremlin tries to teach his cousin the art of computer sabotage.

No Man’s Jungle: An arrogant tracker searches the jungle after hearing rumors of monster sightings. This story had such a great twist!

The Wolf at the Door:
This was an emotional, bittersweet, yet highly imaginative Red Riding Hood retelling.

The Mermaid’s Soul: Do mermaids have souls? Ianthe desperately hopes so. This was such a powerful story. Loved it!

I received an advanced copy of this book and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion.

Book Beginnings / First Line Friday
(Prologue)
Two Years Ago
Outside the Wire, Bagram, Afgahnistan
The sleek, sexy body sailed through the air, effortless in its raw intensity to catapult itself across the sun-heated desert at the fleeing form

(Chapter 1)
Texas Hill Country
Smelly, tender liver extended to the snarling dog, Crew shifted on his legs, feeling the pinch of his prosthesis as he crouched before the wiry-haired mutt. Though mostly gray and appropriately named "Phantom" by the shelter staff, the dog stared at Crew as if he'd just made the biggest mistake of his life. Of Crew's life.

Friday 56
"Sorry for the delay," came the baritone voice of the commander as he entered with three lieutenants. "There has been a lot to sort out. We'll start with the most basic - as Mr. Chapel just stated, this is a secure facility and as such, those without the appropriate clearance will not be allowed on the floor."

Review: The Lost Boys of Barlowe Theater by Jaime Jo Wright

About the Book
It promises beauty but steals life instead. Will the ghosts of Barlowe Theater entomb them all?

Barlowe Theater stole the life of Greta Mercy's eldest brother during its construction. Now in 1915, the completed theater appears every bit as deadly. When Greta's younger brother goes missing after breaking into the building, Greta engages the assistance of a local police officer to help her unveil the already ghostly secrets of the theater. But when help comes from an unlikely source, Greta decides that to save her family she must uncover the evil that haunts the theater and put its threat to rest.

Decades later, Kit Boyd's best friend vanishes during a ghost walk at the Barlowe Theater, and old stories of mysterious disappearances and ghoulish happenings are revived. Then television ghost-hunting host and skeptic Evan Fisher joins Kit in the quest to identify the truth behind the theater's history. Kit reluctantly agrees to work with him in hopes of finding her missing friend. As the theater's curse unravels Kit's life, she is determined to put an end to the evil that has marked the theater and their hometown for the last century.

MY THOUGHTS

Jaime Jo Wright did it again! The Lost Boys of Barlowe Theater is another gothic masterpiece! I've read all of Wright's books, and this is one of my favorites. I'm always in awe of the way she is able to write spooky and atmospheric tales that have such a strong and unwavering Christian message.

This story immediately drew me in and had me gripped to the pages. A cursed theater, missing people, mysterious deaths, and a ghost-hunting TV show? How could I resist?

I enjoyed both timelines and couldn't pick a favorite if I had to. They both featured great characters and compelling mysteries. Even though they take place over a hundred years apart, it was so interesting to see the parallels and connections between the two.

I highly recommend this book, and I can't say enough good things about it. I loved it so much!

Review: LESSONS IN LATTE: A MAGICAL MOUSE CAPER by Merrie Destefano

About the Book
My name is Melvin Mouse and I’m different from most other mice. It’s all because my mom had a near-death experience right before I was born.

I can talk and read minds. That gets me into a lot of trouble.

On top of that, I’m addicted to cheese. Trust me, that gets me into even more trouble.

That’s how I met her. Elspeth, a nine-year-old girl with a broken heart. She offered me a piece of cheese. I would have helped her anyway—I knew she needed help—but I might not have gotten close enough for her to kidnap me!

Before I knew it, I was living in a bakery, where the food was to die for, and I had agreed to help Elspeth find something she lost. I’d never had an indoor home before, where I was protected from the rain and cold. I never had humans who cared about me.

I’d never even had a family. Not really. Mom died right after me and my siblings were born.

This was the first time I ever felt loved.

I could really get used to this.

Except that’s when I found out what Elspeth lost.

Her Siamese cat!

A cat! My sworn enemy!

The only creature in the world impervious to my mind-reading ability. I never know what a cat’s going to do, until it chases me and tries to eat me!

Everybody knows a mouse and a cat can’t live together.

Still, I’m still going to help find Elspeth’s cat, even if it means losing my new home. Because I can’t disappoint my new friend.

USA Today bestselling author Merrie Destefano’s Lessons In Latte is an enchanting and heartwarming tale of friendship, courage, and the boundless love that can blossom in unexpected places. If you enjoyed Wonder by R.J. Palaio or Kitty Confidential by Molly Fitz, you’ll love the captivating story of Melvin Mouse and the magical journey he’s about to undertake.

Lessons In Latte is one of three delightful tales about magical mice. This series also includes Mouse In The House by DeAnna Drake and Paws On The Pier by M.G. Wetherholt.

MY THOUGHTS

This has to be the cutest cozy mystery I’ve ever read. It was fast-paced and featured some of the most likable and interesting characters.

I fell in love with Melvin, the talking mouse. He's a bit of a cheese addict, and it's that love of cheese that leads him to a dangerous mission when he promises a young girl he'll find her missing cat. I loved Melvin's kindness, resiliency, and bravery. I never thought I'd say this, but I just wanted to give that mouse a big hug. He was such a charming and sweet little guy.

I loved this heartwarming tale of belonging and found family. It made me laugh and put a big smile on my face. I highly recommend it!

I received an advanced copy of this book and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion.

Book Beginnings, First Line Friday, & Friday 56: The Lost Boys of Barlowe Theater by Jaime Jo Wright

This week I'm featuring The Lost Boys of Barlowe Theater by Jaime Jo Wright, which releases this Tuesday, October 10. I've read all of Wright's books, and this is one of my favorites. It's so good!

Book Beginnings / First Line Friday
October 1915
Kipper's Grove, Wisconsin
Sometimes death came quietly. A phantom swooping in and siphoning the last remnant of a soul from one's body, leaving behind a shell of a person who once was and would never be again. Other times, death decided that dramatics coupled with terror were its preferred method of delivery. Tonight, that was the chosen form death took.

Friday 56
"Who grabbed me?" Kit demanded. She wasn't prepared for this. She'd rather be at home with her ant farm, watching documentaries about dung beetles, her feet in socks with bumblebees on them, drinking an average cup of coffee. Just like she always had. Before this. Before Barlowe Theater and the first ghost walk. Before Madison disappeared.

Review: He Walks Among Us (True Crime Junkies #2) by Christy Barritt

About the Book
With a killer walking among them, no one is safe . . .

When the newly formed Arctic Circle Murder Club meets in Fairbanks, Alaska, to investigate the mystery of the Missing Women of Dalton Highway, their plans take a gruesome turn.

Upon the group’s arrival at the hotel, three women’s frozen bodies are pulled from the nearby river. When a friend of one of the victims pleads for help finding out who's behind the murders, how can they say no?

The club must detour from their original plan and dive into the recesses of a killer’s mind before another victim is claimed. As they seek the truth behind the murders, opposition hits them at every turn. Shocking revelations from the past along with brimming conflict threaten to end the group just as they’ve started.

Can this group of true crime podcasters uncover someone’s dark secrets before one of their own plunges into an icy grave?

MY THOUGHTS

The Arctic Circle Murder Club is back and trying to solve another cold case. This one is personal. Their efforts are interrupted, though, when a disturbing new case practically falls in their laps. They feel obligated to find and stop the disturbed individual who's committing these heinous crimes.

This was chilling, and I don’t just mean the temperature. The villain was truly creepy, and the chapters from their point of view gave me goosebumps and made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. They were such a twisted individual! I had my suspicions about who the guilty party was, but there were a couple of other suspects I thought it could’ve been, so I was never 100 percent sure.

The Arctic Circle Murder Club is a great team. Each one of the members brings something special and unique to the group. They may have their differences and arguments sometimes, but they work so well together.

There was never a dull moment. I was surprised quite a few times by some of the twists the story took. There were multiple mysteries, and while one of them was solved, the others are left for the next book, which I’m so anxious to get my hands on!

Can't Wait Wednesday: The Mermaid's Tale (Chronicles of the Undersea Realm #1) by L.E. Richmond

This week I'm featuring The Mermaid's Tale (Chronicles of the Undersea Realm #1) by L.E. Richmond releasing October 10. Another book from Enclave Publishing that sounds so good! They're quickly becoming my favorite publisher.

About the Book
A Tail Could Tell a Tale

Locklyn Adair has never fit in. The legs she inherited as a result of her great-great-grandmother’s curse make it impossible for her to belong under the sea. When her niece is also born without a tail, Locklyn is determined to save her from similar rejection by sending her to the only place in the Undersea Realm where legs are acceptable—the Lost Island of Atlantis.

Darin Aalto would do anything to protect his family, even spearheading an impossible quest to find treasure that has been lost for over a hundred years. But when his best friend, Locklyn, joins his crew, his ability to keep her safe—and his shot at winning her heart—comes perilously close to being swept away.

A family curse, lost treasure, unrequited love, and a race against time intertwine as Locklyn and Darin seek to save their family, their kingdom, and eventually the entire Undersea Realm without losing each other.

Review: Deadly Objective by Lynn H. Blackburn

About the Book
When it comes to love, some lines are meant to be crossed

True, US Secret Service Agent Liam Harper is charming, handsome, and absolutely devoted to the people and things he cares about--including his job protecting the vice president's moody son, Mason. But Emily Harper can't let Liam's good qualities cloud her judgment. As the sister of a Secret Service agent, she knows that Liam's job could mean taking a bullet, and she's vowed never to get romantically involved with someone in that line of work.

Agent Harper knows he's been friend-zoned, but that doesn't stop him from falling for Mason's petite and plucky physical therapist. She never fails to put the privileged teen through his paces, yet she manages to make the kid like her all the same. And that Southern drawl is nearly intoxicating when she lays it on thick.

But when Mason enters the crosshairs of a killer, Emily and Liam will find the lines between professional and personal are about to get awfully blurry.

(This is also part of Targeted, which can be found here.)

MY THOUGHTS

Physical therapist Emily Dixon is helping the VP’s son, Mason, rehab his injured shoulder when an explosion rocks the VP’s house. Liam Harper, the secret service agent in charge of protecting Mason, rushes them away from the attack as quickly as possible. What follows is a heart-pounding race to stop the attackers before anyone gets seriously injured.

This was so good and just reminded me that I need to read more of Blackburn’s books. The first chapter captured my attention, and I was glued to the pages from there on out.

I loved Liam and Emily. They were polar opposites, but they made a great team. They were so fun together, and I loved their playful banter. Mason had a bad reputation and a lot of growing up to do, but I ended up really liking him. You could see the positive impact Liam and Emily had on him.

While this was a novella, it didn't feel like one. It was a full and complete story that left me very happy in the end. I highly recommend it to fans of romantic suspense.
