Book Beginnings + Friday 56: Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco

Book Beginnings is a weekly meme hosted by Rose City Reader that asks you to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you're reading. Friday 56 is hosted by Freda's Voice and asks you to grab a book (any book), turn to page 56 or 56% in your ereader and share a non-spoilery sentence or two.

This week I'm featuring Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco. I finally found the time to read this one and it's so good!

About the Book
Presented by James Patterson's new children's imprint, this deliciously creepy horror novel has a storyline inspired by the Ripper murders and an unexpected, blood-chilling conclusion...

Seventeen-year-old Audrey Rose Wadsworth was born a lord's daughter, with a life of wealth and privilege stretched out before her. But between the social teas and silk dress fittings, she leads a forbidden secret life.

Against her stern father's wishes and society's expectations, Audrey often slips away to her uncle's laboratory to study the gruesome practice of forensic medicine. When her work on a string of savagely killed corpses drags Audrey into the investigation of a serial murderer, her search for answers brings her close to her own sheltered world.

The story's shocking twists and turns, augmented with real, sinister period photos, will make this dazzling debut from author Kerri Maniscalco impossible to forget.

Friday 56
"It's essential we tell no one of this," Uncle said at last, removing his spectacles and pinching the bridge of his nose. "Not Nathaniel. Nor friends or classmates. At least until we can prove ourselves to the police. For now, I want you both to scour the evidence we've collected. There has to be some clue we're missing, anything at all we can use to identify the perpetrator before he strikes again."

What have you been reading lately?

    1. It's a part of his publishing imprint. I thought it was really good, a little gruesome at times, but that's not too unexpected because of the subject matter. Thanks for visiting, Anne! Hope you have a good weekend! :)
