Book Beginnings + Friday 56: Dark Power Collection (Forbidden Doors #1) by Bill Myers

Book Beginnings is a weekly meme hosted by Rose City Reader that asks you to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you're reading. Friday 56 is hosted by Freda's Voice and asks you to grab a book (any book), turn to page 56 or 56% in your ereader and share a non-spoilery sentence or two.

This week I'm featuring Dark Power Collection (Forbidden Doors #1) by Bill Myers. It's an intriguing young adult book that deals with spiritual warfare.

About the Book

In Myers' bestselling series, teenager Rebecca "Becka" Williams, her brother Scott, and her friend Ryan Riordan are swept into heartstopping encounters with an all-too-real invisible world fraught with deception and spiritual adversaries. Three books that center around a particular Forbidden Door are gathered for each volume in these special collections.

Book Beginning (from the first story in the collection, The Society)
Rebecca's lungs burned. They screamed for more air; they begged her to slow down. But she couldn't. She pushed herself. She ran for all she was worth. She had to.

Friday 56 (from the second story in the collection, The Deceived)
They pedaled down the road of deserted structures in total silence. At last the house came into view. It had to be the one. No question. It was the only house with a car parked in front. A white Jaguar.
