About the Book
A stand-alone fantasy tale from Seanan McGuire's Alex-award winning Wayward Children series, which began in the Alex, Hugo, Nebula, and Locus Award-winning, World Fantasy Award finalist, Tiptree Honor List Every Heart a Doorway
Beneath the Sugar Sky, the third book in McGuire's Wayward Children series, returns to Eleanor West's Home for Wayward Children in a standalone contemporary fantasy for fans of all ages. At this magical boarding school, children who have experienced fantasy adventures are reintroduced to the "real" world.
When Rini lands with a literal splash in the pond behind Eleanor West's Home for Wayward Children, the last thing she expects to find is that her mother, Sumi, died years before Rini was even conceived. But Rini can’t let Reality get in the way of her quest – not when she has an entire world to save! (Much more common than one would suppose.)
If she can't find a way to restore her mother, Rini will have more than a world to save: she will never have been born in the first place. And in a world without magic, she doesn’t have long before Reality notices her existence and washes her away. Good thing the student body is well-acquainted with quests...
A tale of friendship, baking, and derring-do.
Warning: May contain nuts.
Book Beginning
Autumn had come to Eleanor West's Home for Wayward Children in the usual way, with changing leaves and browning grass and the constant smell of impending rain hanging in the air, a seasonal promise yet to be fulfilled.
Friday 56
The Queen of Cakes leaned back in her throne and smiled as her latest enemies were dragged away. What a lovely day this was shaping up to be.

ReplyDeleteAll the books in this series have been really interesting. Thanks for coming by, Laurel-Rain! Happy New Year! :)
DeleteSeanan McGuire is an author I follow on Twitter but I've barely sampled her books. I really should read more by her because they sound good. This week I am spotlighting The Wild Dead by Carrie Vaughn - a dystopian mystery. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI hope you have the chance to read some of her books. They're so good! Her October Daye books are some of my all-time faves. Thanks for visiting, Kathy! Happy New Year! :)
DeleteI totally adored the premise of this series but DNF book 1 because the plot was moving too slow for me. MI wanted to give it another try, maybe this novella would be a way to get into it faster :)
ReplyDeleteThis one definitely has a lighter feel to it than the previous two. Those were pretty dark. Thanks for stopping by, Daniela! Happy New Year! :)

DeleteThe book I'm sharing this week also has a magical boarding school, but no baking. Sounds like an intriguing mix and like one I should read. Love the cover.

DeleteI like the sound of the premise--something a bit different.
ReplyDeleteThe whole series is pretty unique. It's like a twisted, modern fairy tale. Really interesting. Thanks for stopping by, Nicki! Happy New Year! :)
