Can't Wait Wednesday: The Kremlin Conspiracy by Joel C. Rosenberg

Can't Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Wishful Endings that spotlights and discusses the books we're excited about that we've yet to read. Generally, they're books that are yet to be released. It's based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.

This week I'm featuring The Kremlin Conspiracy by Joel C. Rosenberg releasing March 6, 2018.

About the Book

New York Times bestselling author Joel C. Rosenberg returns with a high-stakes political thriller set in Russia.

Everything he learned to protect the president, he must use to take out theirs.

With an American president distracted by growing tensions in North Korea and Iran, an ominous new threat is emerging in Moscow. A czar is rising in the Kremlin, a Russian president feverishly consolidating power, silencing his opposition, and plotting a brazen and lightning-fast military strike that could rupture the NATO alliance and bring Washington and Moscow to the brink of nuclear war. But in his blind spot is the former U.S. Secret Service agent, Marcus Ryker, trained to protect but ready to kill to save his country.

Why I Need It

I've never read a Joel Rosenberg book before, but I've heard so many great things about them that I'm excited to give them a try. He seems to be scarily good at predicting the future of world events.

What book are you eagerly anticipating? Leave a comment below and let me know.

Review: Hidden Currents (Lantern Beach Mysteries #1) by Christy Barritt

About the Book

You can take the detective out of the investigation, but you can't take the investigator out of the detective.

A notorious gang puts a bounty on Detective Cady Matthews’s head after she takes down their leader, leaving her no choice but to hide until she can testify at trial. But her temporary home across the country on a remote North Carolina island isn’t as peaceful as she initially thinks.

Living under the new identity of Cassidy Livingston, she struggles to keep her investigative skills tucked away, especially after a body washes ashore. When local police bungle the murder investigation, she can’t resist stepping in. But Cassidy is supposed to be keeping a low profile. One wrong move could lead to both her discovery and her demise.

Can she bring justice to the island . . . or will the hidden currents surrounding her pull her under for good?

My Thoughts

I was super excited when I heard that Christy Barritt had started a new series! She's one of the masters of clean mystery and suspense, so I couldn't wait to start Hidden Currents. And my goodness, what a spectacular mystery it was! The prologue definitely grabbed my attention and I was hooked to the end. I was completely sucked into this story. Time flew by while I was reading it.

Cassidy is a great character - feisty and determined. And Ty! Well, I think it might be a bit of an understatement if I said I like him. He's an awesome guy. Their interactions are so entertaining!

Hidden Currents is one of Barritt's best novels yet! I highly recommend it and can't wait for book two! Seriously, I want it now!

I received a copy of this book from the author and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion.

Rennen Bradley, the Ghost, has worked long and hard to get the opportunity to shine as the starting running back. Sure, he feels bad that Ace Sanchez was injured and that he’s taking his place on the team, but that’s how the game rolls.

Rennen never expects to fall for Ariana, and it throws him for a loop when he realizes she’s Ace’s sister. But Rennen’s not going to let a simple complication like that come between him and the woman of his dreams. He understands Ariana’s reservations—heck, even admires her loyalty to her brother. But Rennen’s used to waging uphill battles. Abandoned as a child, Rennen learned a long time ago that you have to fight tooth and nail for anything you want in this life. This was getting ridiculous. Justin was more handsy than an octopus. “Stop touching me,” Ariana warned.
He laughed. “Come on, babe. Don’t be so stiff. You know you like it.”
“No, I don’t like it,” she countered. “No one likes being pawed.” Revulsion churned in her gut as his eyes went to her chest. An incredulous laugh bubbled in her throat. Was he really ogling her chest, right here in front of her? What a jerk! As soon as she got home, she was going to contact Heart to Heart and put in a complaint. They really should be more diligent in making sure people were truthful in their profiles. Justin was nothing like he’d pretended to be, and it was obvious he was only after one thing … and it wasn’t a long-term relationship. She tensed, clenching her fists. “Hey, buddy. My face is up here.”
He snorted out a chortle. “Yeah, but you’ve got something else going on down there. For a little girl, you’ve got a nice rack.”
She froze amidst the dancing couples surrounding them. “What did you just say to me?”
He laughed. “You heard me. Lighten up.” He grabbed her waist with an iron grip. “I thought Latin girls were supposed to be loose.”
Her hand balled into a fist, and she thought about how it would feel to knock him across the floor. “I’m going to give you a half a second to let go of me.”
He grunted in amusement. “Make me.”
Heat splintered up her neck, making her feel like her head would split in two. Then cool precision took over as she calculated Justin’s height and weight. The bigger they are … the harder they fall. From the corner of her eye, she saw the blonde guy from earlier approach. “Is everything okay here?” he asked, his body taut, like he was ready to pounce.
“Buzz off,” Justin grumbled. Letting loose a string of curse words.
“Strike three,” Ariana muttered. She shot her arm straight up in a swift motion where it connected with Justin’s neck, right under his jaw line. Then she brought her arm back down, using her weight to knock him off his feet where he landed on his back with a heavy thud. Murmurs rippled through the couples surrounding them as they backed away. Justin gurgled, clutching his neck, a dazed look in his eyes.
Ariana’s hands flew to her hips. “Just because I’m Latin does not make me easy!”
Claps broke out around her. “That’s right,” a few of the women agreed. “Dirt bag,” one woman muttered, shooting Justin a death glare.
As Justin stumbled to his feet, Ariana planted herself in a battle stance, ready to do more damage if necessary. Her adrenaline was going, and she’d make short work of him, putting her training to good use. But luckily for Justin, he ducked his head and scuttled away.
“That has got to be the most awesome thing I’ve ever seen.”
She turned to the blonde guy who was looking at her in astonishment, admiration shining in his eyes. “Thanks. I appreciate you trying to help.”
He shoved his hands in his pockets, rocking forward on the balls of his feet. “Yeah, I was trying to rescue you from that creep … not that you needed my help.”
Ariana’s blood was pumping so ferociously that she felt dizzy.
He gave her a concerned look. “Are you okay?”
A wan smile tipped her lips as she ran a hand through her hair. “Yeah, I guess that date didn’t go as planned.”
He chuckled. “Life rarely does.” He held her gaze, and she felt the same buzz she’d experienced earlier. Everything around them slowed, and it was just the two of them. His voice was deeper than she imagined, with a husky edge. Her eyes traced the definition of the muscles underneath his form-fitting t-shirt. Heat fanned her face when she saw the flicker of amusement that turned his hazel-green eyes a honey-gold. He’d caught her checking him out. She jerked her eyes to his face, making a mental note to keep her focus there. He had a fine layer of scruff, emphasizing the lean line of his jaw. She swallowed, feeling she was staring at the real-life version of Thor and Captain America, all rolled into one. Captain Thor. Or Goldie Locks because of his thick tangles of beautiful curls.
People around them resumed dancing, but the two of them just stood there. Ariana knew she should start dancing … or do something to break the tension, but she couldn’t get her body to cooperate.
He cleared his throat, a grin washing over his face. “Um, maybe we should get off the dance floor.”
“Oh, yeah.” She propelled her feet into action. Her mind whirled, going through all that had just happened. She could hardly believe he’d been the one to offer help. When they got to the side, he motioned to an empty table.
“Would you like to sit down?”
Her voice sounded unnaturally high and screechy in her ears. “Sure.”
He pulled out a chair for her and helped her get seated. Wow. Captain Thor was a gentleman to the nth degree. A startling contrast to Justin.
As they sat there, staring across the table at each other, Ariana scrambled for something halfway intelligent to say. “Thanks again. You’re a great dancer,” she blurted. Sheesh. She was making an idiot out of herself. Normally she was calm and cool around men, always knowing the right thing to say. But it seemed her mouth had disconnected from her brain.
His lips curved into a radiant smile, causing the edges of his eyes to crease. “Thanks. You’re pretty good yourself.”
The compliment caught her off guard, sending warm ripples cascading through her. He’d been watching her too. It was good to know the attraction went both ways.
He leaned forward. “Was that guy your boyfriend?”
She wrinkled her nose. “Heck no!” She laughed. “We’d never met in person before tonight. We were matched on a dating app.”
His eyebrows shot up in surprise. “Really?”
She felt foolish and a little desperate for resorting to a dating app. Her explanation gushed out. “It’s an app where people in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area can connect. You know, people with similar interests.” She shrugged. “It seemed like a good idea … in theory.” She scowled, darkness gathering inside her. “Of course, I should’ve known better than to go out with a football coach. Note to self … don’t date anymore coaches or football players. Their egos are the size of a whale, their brains the size of a pea, from one too many hits on the field.”
He laughed. “That’s a bit of a blanket statement.”
Her face fell. “Don’t tell me, you’re a football player.” Of course he was. That would be just her luck.
An easy grin stole over his lips. “Well, if I were, I certainly wouldn’t admit it now.”
She pursed her lips together, assessing him. He didn’t seem bothered by her scrutiny. He just sat there, patiently enduring it. “No, you’re not a football player,” she finally said. “I don’t know what you are, but you’re far too intelligent to play football.”
He cocked his head. “So, all football players are stupid? Is that what you’re saying?”
“Nope. Not all of them. Just about ninety percent.”
“So only ten percent are intelligent.” He grinned. “See, I can do math.”
The teasing tone of his voice caused her to smile. “That’s good to know.”
He tsked his tongue. “What turned you against football players?”
“Aside from Justin?” She lifted an eyebrow, waiting for him to respond.
“Yep, aside from him. I mean, he was a douche bag, but the bite in your voice tells me there’s more.”
When her brother Ace first started playing pro ball, Ariana went out with a few players on the team. After about the sixth disaster, she swore off football players altogether. “Experience,” she finally said.
Interest lit his eyes. “Care to elaborate?”
“Not really,” she said loudly, then felt like she was yelling when the music suddenly stopped.
They turned their attention to the guy on stage holding the microphone. “Folks, we’ve got a fun evening lined up, it’s karaoke night!” He pumped a fist in the air as the crowd cheered.
Ariana’s heart dropped. Oh, no!
The emcee looked down at the sheet of paper in his hand. “To start, we have a duet by Ariana and Justin.”
Captain Thor looked at her. “Is everything okay?”
“Not really.” She groaned. “I’m Ariana.”

Excerpt

“My mom is home. You have to go. Right now.”

While my mother had matured over the last eleven years since she’d married Duncan, I didn’t want her to meet Chase and get all fangirl and weird and talking about her own brush with fame. It was humiliating enough in school; the last thing I wanted was for him to find out.

But he wasn’t budging. I pushed against him again, and it was like trying to move a brick wall. A hot, muscular, well-defined brick wall, but still. “I’m serious. You have to go.”

“Are you embarrassed by me?” he asked in a voice that was both bewildered and amused. But at least he finally took a step back. I grabbed him by the wrist, dragging him into the living room. I grabbed his jacket off of the couch and started shoving him toward my mom’s bedroom in the very back of the house.

“That’s not it. It’s…difficult to explain.”

“Aren’t you a little old to be in trouble for having a boy over while you’re babysitting?”

“You just need to leave.” I opened one of the windows and pulled out the screen, dropping it on the ground. I’d put it back later. I indicated that he should use the exit I’d just provided.

“Do you seriously want me to climb out a window?”

I heard the door from the garage to the kitchen open and then shut. My mom called out, “Zoe?”

Frantic, I started pushing him, trying to force him out. He laughed quietly but did give in. “I’m going, I’m going. But you have a lot of explaining to do.”

“Whatever,” I said.

He sat down on the windowsill, hanging one leg over the ledge. His attention was drawn to the massive poster that hung over my mother’s bed. It hadn’t even occurred to me to try and block his view or take it down. “Is that your mom?”

That stupid picture had made my life miserable for years. I would have kept it from him if I could.

My mother called my name again. It sounded like she was coming down the hallway.

I was about ready to throw all my weight against him. “Yes, it’s my mom. Now go!”

Laughing, he swung both legs through the open window and jumped the three feet to the ground, landing easily. Then he made a dramatic, Shakespearean-type bow. “’Til next we meet, my lady.”

Author Sariah Wilson
Bestselling author Sariah Wilson has never jumped out of an airplane or climbed Mount Everest, and she is not a former CIA operative. She has, however, been madly, passionately in love with her soul mate and is a fervent believer in happily ever afters—which is why she writes romances like The Royals of Monterra series. After growing up in Southern California as the oldest of nine (yes, nine) children, she graduated from Brigham Young University with a semiuseless degree in history. She currently lives with the aforementioned soul mate and their four children in Utah, along with three tiger barb fish, a cat named Tiger, and a recently departed hamster who is buried in the backyard (and has nothing at all to do with tigers).

This week I'm featuring Who Moved My Goat Cheese? (A Farm-to-Fork Mystery) by Lynn Cahoon releasing March 6, 2018.

About the Book

Angie Turner hopes her new farm-to-table restaurant can be a fresh start in her old hometown in rural Idaho. But when a goat dairy farmer is murdered, Angie must turn the tables on a bleating black sheep . . .

With three weeks until opening night for their restaurant, the County Seat, Angie and her best friend and business partner Felicia are scrambling to line up local vendors—from the farmer's market to the goat dairy farm of Old Man Moss. Fortunately, the cantankerous Moss takes a shine to Angie, as does his kid goat Precious. So when Angie hears the bloodcurdling news of foul play at the dairy farm, she jumps in to mind the man's livestock and help solve the murder. One thing's for sure, there's no whey Angie's going to let some killer get her goat . . .

Why I Need It

I LOVE goats! I have several and they're so mischievous and fun to be around. So, since there's a goat on the cover and goats inside the book, of course I have to read it!  Plus, I love cozy mysteries set on farms.

Review: Random Acts of Murder (Holly Anna Paladin Mysteries #1) by Christy Barritt

About the Book

When Holly Anna Paladin is given a year to live, she embraces her final days doing what she loves most—random acts of kindness. But one of her extreme good deeds goes horribly wrong, implicating Holly in a string of murders. Holly is suddenly in a different kind of fight for her life.

Only two other people know Holly was at the site of the murder, and one of them is the killer. Making matters stickier is the fact that the detective assigned to the case is her old high school crush and present day nemesis.

The clock is ticking as Holly is forced to play a dangerous game. Will Holly find the killer before he ruins what’s left of her life? Or will she spend her final days alone and behind bars?

My Thoughts

Random Acts of Murder was SO good! Right from the very beginning I was hooked! Holly Paladin has been told she only has a year to live. She decides to make the best of the situation and perform as many random acts of kindness as she can. It backfires, though, when she discovers a dead body at the house of one of her acts of kindness. Before she's wrongly accused of the crime, she decides to figure out the killer herself.

I wasn't sure what to expect with this book. I was afraid it was gonna be a bit of a downer since the main character is sick and only has a year to live. But I had no need to worry, this is a Christy Barritt book after all. It featured her trademark humor, edge of your seat suspense, and heartfelt moments. I instantly liked Holly. Her optimism in the face of her diagnosis and circumstances was so admirable. The mystery was multi-layered and kept me guessing. I'm excited to find out what mysteries await in the next book, Random Acts of Deceit. Highly recommend!

Excerpt

Hailey’s brain scrambled for an out, any out. She put on a fake smile and said, “You don’t know how much I wish I could have dinner with you tonight, but you must not have heard … I’m recently engaged.” She kept a straight face when she wanted to gasp in shock. Where had that come from, and who was she going to claim she was engaged to?

William released her hair and actually took a step back, the scowl on his face ruining all his supposed good looks. “You are?” His eyes strayed to her left hand. She clasped it with her right to hide her naked finger. “To whom?”

A dark-haired man appeared at her table. Hailey dealt with burly football players every day of her life, but this guy’s shape still gave her pause. He was probably around six three and two hundred and fifty pounds. Every inch was muscle, not bodybuilder muscle but lean and functional and covered by smooth, tanned skin. He definitely had some Italian heritage in him as dark and good-looking as he was. Hailey had a strict policy of not checking out her own team’s football players, but she knew every single one of them. This guy wasn’t on her roster.

“Excuse me.” The man’s deep voice washed over her as his dark eyes looked at her with concern then flashed to William with annoyance. “Do you need some help?”

Yes, yes she did. Hailey grasped his arm and cuddled into his side, wrapping her other arm around his waist. “Thank you for coming to check on me, sweetheart.” His body tightened at the way she was trying to manhandle him, impossible to really do as she was almost a foot shorter and less than half his bodyweight, but she needed help, and she needed it now. The solution was so clear. William would back off if she were engaged. He would have to. Then there would be no repercussions on her football team and no coercion to date, and especially not to stay the night with, the slime ball VP.

“Um, sure … anything for you, honey.” The man wrapped his arm around her shoulder, and Hailey had never felt so safe as he gently pulled her close. Safety and reassurance were amazing and unexpected feelings to have at the moment, especially after the fear of William clogging her throat mere seconds ago and the fact that she naturally shied away from well-built men. The emotion of it all made her weak, and she found herself leaning against his muscular chest.

The dark-haired guy glanced down at her and winked. Ooh, he was quick too. She ticked off his positive qualities in her mind—not one of her football brothers, handsome with strong facial features, brown eyes framed with dark lashes, and smart. She might even give this guy a date to prove they were engaged.

“This is my fiancé,” she said to William, inclining her chin with pride.

The man kind of started, but he stayed close to her side as he released her from his hold and stuck his hand out to William. “Brady Giles. Pleasure to meet you …”

Brady Giles? Oh, crap, he was one of her players! He’d recently transferred from New England. He was one of the top cornerbacks in the nation, and they were extremely blessed to get him, but the Brady Giles she’d seen from the sidelines had long, dark wavy hair and a full beard. This guy with the cropped hair and clean shaven model-gorgeous face was a Brady Giles she’d never expected—sharp and way too appealing. What had she done?

Book Beginnings + Friday 56: Paint the Town Dead (A Silver Six Mystery) by Nancy Haddock

Book Beginnings is a weekly meme hosted by Rose City Reader that asks you to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you're reading. Friday 56 is hosted by Freda's Voice and asks you to grab a book (any book), turn to page 56 or 56% in your ereader and share a non-spoilery sentence or two.

This week I'm featuring Paint the Town Dead (A Silver Six Mystery) by Nancy Haddock.

Book Beginning

"Nixy! Nixy, child, we're waiting for you."

Friday 56

That night playing with the critters took my mind off the puzzle of the missing tools. Dab had gone off to buy toys at some point, and he and Fred proudly announced they'd taught Amber to sit, turn in a circle, and lie down on command. I had to wonder how many dog treats they'd fed her to accomplish all that, yet she dug into her food.

About the Book

From the national bestselling author of Basket Case comes the second mystery starring the crafty and cantankerous Silver Six.

Leslee Stanton Nix—aka “Nixy”—thought moving to small-town Lilyvale, Arkansas, would be about as thrilling as watching paint dry. But keeping up with her retired Aunt Sherry and her troublemaking housemates—collectively known as the Silver Six—has proven to be as exciting as it is exasperating.

To kick off the grand opening of their craft shop, the Handcraft Emporium, Nixy and the Silver Six invite Doralee Gordon to teach a gourd painting class. Doralee’s spirit gets squashed when her ex-husband crashes the class with his new fiancée, but things really get messy when the bride-to-be later turns up dead. Now it’s up to Nixy and the Silver Six to use their melons to find the killer—before someone else gets painted out of the picture...

My Review

Five Stars

This was my second time reading Tainted and I loved it just as much as the first time. With steampunk books, I either absolutely love them or strongly dislike them. I've gotta say, Tainted is steampunk done right and just the type that I adore. It's a fast-paced novel that had me reading as quickly as I could. Vivid descriptions made it easy for me to perfectly picture this fascinating world and characters.

Tainted is great for any lover of steampunk, but is also a wonderful starting point for those who aren't familiar with the genre. Since this book ended with the characters in flux, I can't wait to start the sequel, Awakened, immediately!

Can't Wait Wednesday: My Heart Belongs in San Francisco, California: Abby's Prospects by Janice Thompson

This week I'm featuring My Heart Belongs in San Francisco, California: Abby's Prospects by Janice Thompson releasing March 1, 2018.

About the Book

Journey now to San Francisco, California, of 1853 where...
An English socialite finds more treasure than expected on her trip to the American West.

When Abby Effingham becomes stranded in the middle of the California gold rush, her money depletes quickly even while her prospects for marriage increase daily. But Abby is on a mission to find her mother—not romance. Will a ridiculous scandal keep her from traveling on, or will it wake up an aloof innkeeper to the treasure right under his roof?

Samuel Harris runs a moderately priced hotel where Abby and her family’s elderly butler find shelter. He is looking forward to when she—and her parade of suitors—move on, though he concedes to let her work in his restaurant. When the sassy socialite is in trouble, will Samuel come to her rescue or find himself alone?

Why I Need It

I really loved Janice Thompson's 'Weddings by Bella' series. (They were so hilarious!) I've not read any of Thompson's historical novels, but am excited to give this one a try.

What book are you eagerly anticipating?

Top Ten Tuesday: Bookish Resolutions

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

The topic for this week is: Bookish Resolutions/Goals. I'm not the type of person that makes New Year's Resolutions, so this was not the easiest topic for me. But I finally came up with a few things that I hope I'll be able to do this year.

Read more Fantasy/Paranormal Books. These have always been my favorite genres and last year I mostly stuck with reading Contemporary/Historical novels. This year I'm hoping to find my way back to reading more of these books.

Quality over Quantity. I don't want to stress as much on the number of books I read or how fast/slow I'm reading them. Last year I barely made my Goodreads Reading Challenge goal, so this year I've set my goal lower and am hoping to just enjoy the books I read.

Reread a few books. Last year I wanted to reread quite a few of my favorite books, but felt like I didn't have the time to do that. This year, I'm hoping to find the time to reread at least a few.

Try to curb my spending. I don't want to admit how much I spent on books last year. So I'm gonna try to not spend quite as much this year. (But who am I kidding? I'm more than likely gonna fail this one, lol.)

Don't overcommit on books for review. Last year I said 'Yes' to pretty much every review opportunity. And I loved all those books, but I became very overwhelmed!

Read some longer books. Last year I got in the habit of reading a lot of novellas. And I really enjoyed them! They are great for when I only have a short amount of time to read. But I'm hoping this year I'll be able to read some long books, too. I have some HUGE books that have been on my TBR list for a while that I've been dying to read. ... which leads me to my next resolution ...

Read some books that I've had on my TBR list for a while. My TBR pile is out of control and I keep adding to it. (So many amazing books out there!) I really need to try to read some books that I've had for a while.

What are some of your bookish resolutions for this year? I'd love to hear about them!

Review: A Song Unheard (Shadows Over England #2) by Roseanna M. White

About the Book

Willa Forsythe is both a violin prodigy and top-notch thief, which makes her the perfect choice for a crucial task at the outset of World War I--to steal a cypher from a famous violinist currently in Wales.

Lukas De Wilde has enjoyed the life of fame he's won--until now, when being recognized nearly gets him killed. Everyone wants the key to his father's work as a cryptologist. And Lukas fears that his mother and sister, who have vanished in the wake of the German invasion of Belgium, will pay the price. The only light he finds is meeting the intriguing Willa Forsythe.

But danger presses in from every side, and Willa knows what Lukas doesn't--that she must betray him and find that cypher, or her own family will pay the price as surely as his has.

My Review

Five Stars

When the mysterious Mr. V shows up with an important mission for Willa, to steal a cypher from a world-renowned violinist, she agrees. Lukas De Wilde, famous violinist, is in Wales as part of a touring orchestra full of Belgian refugees. He's hoping to earn enough money to head back to Belgium to search for his mother and sister who are missing. Little do they know how much their meeting will change both of their lives.

I've been really excited for A Song Unheard after reading and loving the first book in this series, A Name Unknown. It did not disappoint! And while I didn't think it was possible, I liked this book even better than the first. I loved getting reacquainted with many of the characters and meeting some new ones too! Willa's a very strong and determined woman who's quite the brilliant musician, as well. And Lukas! I instantly liked him and really felt for his situation. I absolutely loved it when Lukas and Willa shared the page. They had such great chemistry and their back and forth banter was so entertaining.

There was mystery, intrigue, and suspense that kept building to the end when I couldn't read it fast enough. I love cryptography and so I found that element of the story to be very interesting. Regretfully, I don't remember learning a whole lot about World War I in school and so I had no idea of many of the horrors that occurred in Belgium. This book is filled with so much interesting and, sometimes, heart-wrenching facts of history. I feel like I learned so much by reading this book.

A Song Unheard did take me a bit longer to read, but that in no way means I didn't like it. On the contrary, I absolutely adored it! It was lovely and a book that I savored, enjoying my trip back in time. I seriously can't recommend this book highly enough! Start with the first book and then dive right into this one!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion.

This week I'm featuring Tainted (The Soul Chronicles #1) by Morgan L. Busse. I've just started rereading it in preparation of book two in the series. So far, it's as good as I remember.

Book Beginning

Today I make history.

Kat ran trembling fingers across the top of the cream-colored letter and took a deep breath, savoring the moment, calming the quiver in her stomach. The margins of the parchment were smudged from frequent perusal, though the letter itself contained very few words, and she had each one memorized.

Friday 56 (56% on my Kindle)

He stepped outside the room and quietly shut the door behind him. He leaned against the door and let out a shaky breath. He was spooked, that's all. But he couldn't shake that look on Kat's face, or the images she had spoken about. Her words continued to play inside his mind.
