The water waited, asking to be pulled up from the springs beneath the arena, to be chilled and frozen into the icy floor beneath Valkyrya's boots.

The light sconces on the walls froze, shattered. Snowflakes formed in midair, hanging there without movement in a way that made it seem as though times stood still.
