Book Beginnings, First Line Friday, & Friday 56: Rescued Dreams (Last Chance Fire and Rescue Book 8) by Lisa Phillips

Book Beginnings is a weekly meme hosted by Rose City Reader that asks you to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you're reading. I'm also linking up with Carrie at Reading is My Superpower for First Line Friday. Friday 56 asks you to grab a book (any book), turn to page 56 or 56% in your ereader and share a non-spoilery sentence or two. It was started by Freda at Freda's Voice, but Anne over at My Head is Full of Books has taken over for the time being.

This week I'm featuring Rescued Dreams (Last Chance Fire and Rescue Book 8) by Lisa Phillips. I just finished this book and loved it! It releases October 14, and I should have my review up by then.

About the Book
She must confront her haunting past to protect her future—and the man she loves.

Truck Lieutenant Amelia Patterson hasn’t told anyone about her past in Benson, or the fact her vindictive ex never gave her the necessary paperwork for her rank.

Rescue Squad firefighter Ridge Foster, recently promoted to Lieutenant, is eager to leave Eastside Fire House and his unspoken feelings for Amelia behind.

When Amelia’s secret comes to light and she is forced to step down, Ridge takes her spot as the leader on truck until she can produce the paperwork. But with an old enemy sabotaging her professional and private life in search of hidden payouts from her father, Amelia’s past threatens to destroy everything she holds dear.

Determined to keep her firehouse family safe, Amelia must decide whether to trust them with the truth or face her demons alone. As the danger escalates, Amelia and Ridge are forced to confront their feelings for each other while racing against time to uncover the truth…and protect their future.

Rescued Dreams is a thrilling romantic suspense that explores the power of trust, the strength of family, and the courage to face the past in order to secure a brighter future.

Book Beginnings / First Line Friday
Whoever said the truth was like a flame got it wrong.
Lies were the real fire. One moment there was a tiny flicker. Then it grew and spread, destroying everything until there was nothing left but ash.

Friday 56
A car pulled into the drive. Amelia watched as it rolled slowly down the gravel toward where she stood in front of the house.

  1. Book Eight? Have you read the other books in the series? Are the stories connected or are they standalones?

  2. I have the same question as B.J. Burgess: are the books meant to be read as a series or can they be read as standalones? Because this book sounds somewhat interesting to me, but not enough to commit to an entire series.

  3. Oh.. This one has a little bit of a spooky feel to it from the quotes. Have fun with it.
