Book Beginnings, First Line Friday, & Friday 56: Brynn and Sebastian Hate Each Other by Bethany Turner

Book Beginnings is a weekly meme hosted by Rose City Reader that asks you to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you're reading. Friday 56 is hosted by Freda's Voice and asks you to grab a book (any book), turn to page 56 or 56% in your ereader and share a non-spoilery sentence or two. I'm also linking up with Carrie at Reading is My Superpower for First Line Friday.

This week I'm featuring Brynn and Sebastian Hate Each Other by Bethany Turner. This is another fun one from Turner. It releases this upcoming Tuesday, September 5. I'll have my review up that day, so be sure to come back and check that out.

About the Book
She’s a sunny morning-show host. He’s a cynical ex-reporter. They’re destined to hate each other . . . Aren’t they?

Brynn Cornell has to be stuck in a nightmare. Just last week, she was riding high as cohost of the popular morning show Sunup. She’s America’s Ray of Sunshine—the girl-next-door beauty who drives up TV ratings while never exuding anything but her trademark positivity and poise. All it took was one huge on-air mistake to expose her snarky side to the world and make it all come crumbling down. Now she’s back in her hometown of Adelaide Springs, Colorado, in a last-ditch attempt to convince viewers she’s not the mean girl they think she is. All she has to do is apologize and capture some feel-good footage reminding everyone she’s just a girl from humble beginnings who’s grateful for her big break, and she might manage to preserve both her career and her image. But this town holds painful memories that she’s not ready to face.

Sebastian Sudworth was on the fast track to the journalist hall of fame. A superstar reporter with a reputation for being in the center of the action, his fearless, relentless coverage of major events around the globe was winning him awards and accolades—until something snapped inside him and he vanished from the scene under mysterious circumstances. Sebastian sought refuge in tiny Adelaide Springs, working odd jobs and trying to blend in as a scruffy mountain town citizen.

When Sebastian is assigned to chauffeur Brynn around town, Brynn is sure he can see right through her carefully cultivated, sunny persona. But she’s determined to do what it takes to maintain her image and save her career—so she’ll just have to charm the socks off Sebastian the same way she charmed her viewers. Easier said than done. It’s no picnic to play nice around someone you hate . . . especially when you might be crazy about them.

Book Beginnings / First Line Friday
Friday, March 18
8:45 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time
"Coming up in the third hour of Sunup, Elena and Hayley are going to sit down with a few of the heroic women and men who were on the ground fighting last month's tragic wildfires in the Sierra Nevadas. So many amazing stories, Mark."

Friday 56
Laughter. He really hadn't expected to walk back in to the sound of laughter. But so it was. It was all so jarring that it took Sebastian a moment to figure out where and whom exactly it was coming from, and then the discovery sent his discombobulation over the edge.

Review: The Dos and Don'ts of Dating a Doppelgänger: A Sweet Romantic Comedy by Kari Monet

About the Book (From Amazon)
It was love at first click . . . until she found out who his late wife was.

Ava would never move to a small town just because she met someone online—except she kinda did. The first surprise is that she shares a workplace with her mystery man, Tanner, and the chemistry is just as strong as their online friendship was. But the biggest shock is that Ava's the mirror image of Maggie St. Giles, who died five years ago. And this might be a problem for Tanner, who was married to her.

Of course, everyone in the small town of Caterwaul has an opinion about how Tanner and Ava should proceed, and their hilarious matchmaking efforts create a whirlwind of emotions for the couple to navigate. Will Ava be able to put down roots in a place where people still sometimes mistake her for her doppelgänger, Maggie? Will Tanner get over the sensation of dating a ghost?

This friends-to-lovers romantic comedy features a full cast of charming eccentrics, and celebrates the power of love to heal old wounds.

If you enjoyed The Seat Filler by Sariah Wilson and The Bodyguard by Katherine Center, you'll love The Dos and Don'ts of Dating a Doppelgänger.

MY THOUGHTS

I really enjoyed this sweet romance. There were plenty of laughs, a lot of heart, and even some tears.

Ava and Tanner were great characters. They were so genuine and real, and their banter was so much fun. Things got complicated pretty fast, though, when they met face-to-face. What are the odds that Ava looks exactly like Tanner's deceased wife? What a surprise! I didn't know how a relationship between them would work, but I was rooting for them. I liked that there were chapters from both of their perspectives. And I also loved that there were even some chapters with POVs from other characters around town.

Speaking of the town, I loved Caterwaul and all of its nosy residents. I also thought the rivalry between them and their neighboring city of Canaan was pretty fun too.

I liked the whole concept of the TrueVoice app. No pictures, no videos. It was just voice recordings, which I thought was a neat way to get to know someone.

While there were a lot of laughs and humorous situations, this book also dealt with some serious topics—addiction, in particular. I thought it was handled well and appreciated the spotlight on such an important topic.

This was the first book I've read by this author, and I look forward to more! I recommend it to readers who enjoy sweet romances with humor and depth.

I received an advanced copy of this book and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion.

Can't Wait Wednesday: Twilight Falls (A Shady Hollow Mystery #4) by Juneau Black

Can't Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Wishful Endings that spotlights and discusses the books we're excited about that we've yet to read. Generally, they're books that are yet to be released. It's based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.

This week I'm featuring Twilight Falls (A Shady Hollow Mystery #4) by Juneau Black releasing November 7. I absolutely loved the first three books, so I was ecstatic when I saw there was gonna be a new one.

About the Book
The fourth book in the Shady Hollow mystery series sees Vera embroiled in a case involving star-crossed lovers whose affair may have turned deadly.

It's spring in Shady Hollow, and romance is in the air. Even reporter Vera Vixen is caught up in the season as her relationship with new police chief Orville Braun blossoms. But true love is not always smooth sailing, as two of the hollow's young residents come to find. Jonah Atwater and Stasia von Beaverpelt find themselves battling their families in order to be together. And when Jonah's father, Shelby, goes over the top of Twilight Falls, all signs point to Stasia being the murderer.

The evidence against Stasia appears overwhelming, and Orville arrests her. It looks like the case is closed, but Vera isn't so sure. There are almost too many clues indicating Stasia is the killer, leading her to suspect someone is setting Stasia up. Besides, what about the mysterious ghostly creature skulking around town at night? Maybe he or she was involved? As Vera investigates further, her sleuthing puts her in direct opposition to Orville, and soon she's stirred up a hornet's nest of trouble.

Review: Wet Behind the Ears (The Worlds Behind #3) by W.R. Gingell

About the Book
Athelas never wanted housemates. Now he has three: the gumiho for whom he provided an alibi, the tea-wielding housekeeper who poisoned him, and the young human who might pose the greatest danger of all.

All of Athelas’ training tells him to kill small, soft things before something else does—or worse, before he grows fond of them and then something kills them. He should at least know better than to worry about the revenge-bent gumiho who is drawing the attention of every high-ranking Behindkind in Seoul Between.

Hot on the tails of the gumiho who slaughtered her family, YeoWoo instead stumbles over the battered and broken body of a merman who knows just a little bit too much about her quarry. It should be simple to keep Marazul both alive and useful, but although YeoWoo is successful in the former, the latter is a different tail—especially when the merman knows exactly how dangerous it is to talk.

YeoWoo has always taken what she wanted in blood and force. Athelas has always gained what he needed by deception and manipulation. With their usual methods failing at every turn and the investigation swiftly becoming deadly for the entire house, it’s time to make a few changes.

And Athelas has begun to fear that if he does change, his life will forever spin out of his control...

MY THOUGHTS

I had planned on reading a different book, but I saw that this one had just been released, and I couldn't resist. This series, along with The City Between, have become some of my favorites in the urban fantasy genre. It's such a fascinating and weird world filled with wonderful, complex, and twisty characters. Characters who, despite their flaws, I've really come to love.

This was another great addition to the series. Action-packed and full of twists, there was never a dull moment. There was definite progress made, but more questions popped up too.

I saw a lot of growth in more than one of the characters. Yeah, it was more subtle in some, but it was there, and I was happy to see it. And I have to say that I was ecstatic with the progress of a certain character.

That ending threw me for a loop, so to say I'm eager for the next book is an understatement. It can't come out soon enough.

Something black and tarry oozed under Athelas' door. He turned a page and glanced at the intrusion over the top of his book; one leg that was crossed over the other stirred gently in a measured foot-tap.

Friday 56
There was a noise of irritation from behind them both. "You killed it!" complained Inspector Gu. "We can't get information out of them if they're dead."

Review: Ned (The Minnesota Marshalls #3) by Susan May Warren

About the Book
After four years of training to become a Navy SEAL, Ned Marshall is finally ready to marry the woman of his dreams, Shae Johnson . And Shae’s been uber patient, waiting, building a life as a free-lance graphic artist, moving around the globe to be with him. So, when she said yes to his proposal in Geneva, he fully expected to live happily-ever-after.

At the very least, he expected her to be waiting at the hotel for him three days after an emergency call-out. And maybe it was unreasonable to expect her to be sitting in the hotel, working on her watercolors—Shae, after all grew up in Montana, and she has adventure in her blood. So of course she’s going to go climb the beautiful Swiss mountains. Even make a friend.

But Ned isn’t thrilled with her new friend, and something about him doesn’t feel safe…

So she’s made some friends while waiting for Ned to return? Shae can’t believe that after years of sacrifice, Ned is actually angry at her—what did he expect, that she’d sit by the window? Dana and his friends are harmless, right?

Not so much. Because when Shae finds herself kidnapped, and brought to Russia, she fears the worst—she’s been swept up in a human trafficking ring. And when she’s sent to, of all places, Siberia how will Ned ever find her?

But Ned isn’t going to lose her—not after everything they’ve been through, and he’ll stop at nothing to rescue her. But when he discovers the real reason she’s been taken, he will have to become a traitor to his country if he wants her back.

Join the epic race to rescue Shae in the high-adrenaline book three in the Minnesota Marshalls series.

MY THOUGHTS

Susan May Warren's books never fail to get my heart pounding and adrenaline pumping. This book was nearly nonstop action and a race against time from the first page to the last. (And, really, it didn't even stop there. Things just ramped up for the next book.)

I will say that this wasn't one of my favorite Susan May Warren books. There was some suspension of belief needed. And, I don't usually have this problem, but I found myself lost a few times. There was so much going on and so much going wrong for the characters that I had a hard time connecting with some of them.

I did admire Shae's resiliency and tenacity, though. She'd been through a lot in her life, but despite finding herself in another horrible situation, she was so brave. She didn't give up, and I loved her fighting spirit.

I really enjoyed Iris and Hudson's part of the story. I became very invested in them, so I am looking forward to the next book.

This week I'm featuring Havoc (A Breed Apart: Legacy #1) by Ronie Kendig releasing October 17.

About the Book
A soldier, a Malinois, and a stuntwoman walk onto a TV set . . .

Former Special Forces operator Sergeant Crew Gatlin takes everything in stride, even the career-ending incident that separated him from the Army, half a leg, and his beloved working dog, Havoc K027. Putting his life back together and lying low, he takes a job with A Breed Apart and is unexpectedly reunited with Havoc. It’s too good to be true—and the proof is in their first assignment: to work as a K-9 team for a television drama in Los Angeles. Miffed at being relegated to TV fodder, he’s willing to pay the price when he sees the stuntwoman.

Being a stunt double allows Vienna Foxcroft to fulfill her acting dream—with a side of MMA—and stay out of the limelight. The same one that plagued her childhood and put her through a nightmare scenario. Now, her tight-knit stunt team are the only ones she trusts. Then in walks Mr. Mountain-of-Muscle and his tough-as-nails dog, and Vienna has a bad feeling her life is about to turn upside down.

Ticked as they head overseas for a location shoot in Turkey, Crew guts it up—after all, he has Havoc again. Okay, and yeah—Vienna is going, too. When an attack sends the cast fleeing into the streets of Turkey, Vienna must face the demons of her past or be devoured by them. And Crew and Havoc are tested like never before.

Experience the high-octane thrill ride that is the first book in the A Breed Apart: Legacy series.

Review: Criminal Enchantment: An Enchanted, Inc. Short Story by Shanna Swendson

About the Book
Before Katie met Owen, the Magic, Spells, and Illusions, Inc., team already had a job to do.

There’s spellcasting skullduggery at work in Manhattan, and Sam the gargoyle is on the case. This time, the shady spells look awfully familiar, like the work of outcast wizard Phelan Idris. There’s just no real evidence of his involvement, and without that, the MSI team can’t do anything to stop him from wreaking magical havoc in the city. To track the criminal enchantments back to their source, Sam will have to rally his security gargoyle pals, do some old-fashioned sleuthing, and keep his wizard friend Owen Palmer focused on the case instead of on that cute girl he spotted at the bookstore.

See the events that lead up to the beginning of Enchanted, Inc. in this Enchanted Universe novelette.

MY THOUGHTS

This is a prequel to the Enchanted, Inc. series, and after finishing it, I want to go back and reread that whole series! I absolutely loved that this story is told from the perspective of Sam the gargoyle, the chief of security at Magic, Spells, and Illusions, Inc. He was one of my favorite characters from the series, so that was a ton of fun!

This is a great intro to the series and will appeal to new readers and old alike. This story sets up the first book really well, so there's not a ton of resolution to the mystery surrounding the "shady spells". You'll have to continue the series to see how that unfolds. But, all in all, reading this story was a great way to spend the afternoon. I loved visiting these characters and this world again.

Book Beginnings / First Line Friday
How Ned hated walking into a country naked.
And sure, he had clothing on - a pair of 5.11 tactical pants, a job shirt over a long pullover, a pair of waterproof tactical boots, and tucked into his pack, a wool hat, and even gloves.
But he'd left his Navy-issued Glock-19 at home, along with his side holster, and his KA-BAR, and even his dive knife because, well, that just might get flagged, and if he carried permits it would most definitely slow him down with Helsinki customs.

Friday 56
Three days from the stupidest thing she'd ever done, and Iris still couldn't shake it from her brain.

Review: The Stars Wait Not (The Star Realm Saga Book 1) by Anne Wheeler

About the Book

As the mountain winter fades, a reluctant respect between the two becomes trust, and trust soon blossoms into affection. But when the Fleet arrives to arrest Kresten for treason, Ryllis must make an impossible decision.

Save Kresten’s life—or hers.

MY THOUGHTS

A fairytale in space? Yes, please! I was held captive by this book from the very first page to the last. I didn't want it to end.

The worldbuilding was great. There was a very unique and fascinating feel to it. It was very much science fiction, but there was a sprinkling of traditional fairytale fantasy to it as well, which I really loved. It was such a great combo. And I loved that there was artwork included throughout the book. It made the story come alive even more.

This is the second book I've read by this author, and it made me an even bigger fan. I'm eager to get caught up on her entire backlist. Highly recommended!

Review: Quantum Spacewalker: Jarl's Journey (Quantum Spacewalker Series Book 1) by Grace S. Grose

About the Book
Jarl Henderson had a normal, active life until The Disaster. His family, save for his sister Aneera, was wiped out. As the world moves inexorably toward the revealing of Satan’s messiah and the end of the age, Jarl – at Jesus’ request – is launched into the quantum realm to travel its pathways and retrieve items vital for Jesus’ followers still on earth. During his travels, he meets shapeshifters, angels, hybrids, and demons and has to determine friend from foe. His final task is the most shocking – the retrieval of the Revelation 19 sword that Jesus will use at his return. Will he recover this item necessary for the ending of the age at the risk of ultimate loss for himself and those he loves?

MY THOUGHTS

This was a unique and fascinating take on the End Times. It was intriguing, fast-paced, and full of wonderful characters. For such a serious topic, there was a surprising amount of humor, which I really appreciated. I found myself laughing out loud quite often. The writing style was engaging, and I loved the short chapters. It made things feel like they were moving quickly. Jarl was a fun narrator, and I enjoyed watching him learn how to quantum spacewalk. What a neat concept! I'm eager to read the next book which follows Jarl's sister, Aneera. If you're a fan of biblically based end times fiction, check this book out. I really enjoyed it.

Review: The Lies We Believe (Shadow Stalkers #1) by Lisa Harris

About the Book

Soon Riley finds it harder and harder to know what is truth and what are lies as she is forced to question her own reality while she searches for her daughter.

Apprehending fugitives as a part of the SOG team gives Tucker Shaw the purpose and drive he needs to fight the demons from his past. When he’s called out on a mission to track down a group of endangered young girls, he has no idea how drastically his life is about to change. It’s a frantic hunt as the situation quickly spirals out of control with a final twist that has Tucker questioning everything he knows to be true.

Available in Kindle Unlimited at time of posting

MY THOUGHTS

What an exciting psychological thriller! The compelling prologue hooked me, and I was glued to the pages from there on out.

To say Riley had a lot on her plate is an understatement. She's a widowed single mother of two kids and is dealing with the aftereffects of her husband's bad choices and then his murder, all while wondering if she's going crazy like her mother did. She's barely hanging on, doing the best she can but worrying that it's not enough. I really felt for her. It was like she couldn't catch a break, and things just kept piling up on her.

This story tackles some serious topics - mental illness and human trafficking. It's hard to read about sometimes, but I appreciated the light being shined on these topics. It's much needed.

There wasn't a lot of romance, but what little there was felt forced and sorta out of the blue. But other than that, I really enjoyed this book and look forward to more in this series. Especially after that doozy of an ending!

When he rescues a woman on the side of the road, he knows just how much danger she’s in. Stranded together and butting heads, they discover a common interest: true crime.

When their favorite local Alaskan podcaster goes radio silent right before revealing the name of a cold case killer, they dive in to investigate only to make a terrifyingly frigid discovery. Can these strangers work together to find answers before the biting, dangerous cold claims their lives? Or even worse . . . before the killer comes looking for his own brand of justice?

MY THOUGHTS

I was so excited for this new book from Christy Barritt. It did not disappoint. It features a cold case, a true crime podcast, an Alaskan setting, an interesting group of characters, and mysteries and danger around every corner. How could I not like it? It was a thrill ride from start to finish and kept me guessing right up to the reveal. It's a little different from Barritt's norm, but I loved it so much. The characters were great, and I can't wait to spend more time with them in the next installment.

Review: The Offer (The Deadly Decisions Collection) by D.L. Wood

About the Book
Some decisions are deadly.
Addie Nichols, a young, ambitious chef, is determined to make her new Manhattan restaurant a culinary sensation. Pursuing her dream has cost her everything, including financial stability. Though the restaurant is gaining ground, Addie can’t even afford to pay her rent.

One night a wealthy socialite makes Addie an unbelievable offer: an exorbitant sum for personally catering a weekend celebration for her husband on their secluded private island, nestled in the idyllic Thousand Islands. Ignoring inner echoes of “don’t talk to strangers,” Addie accepts. She desperately needs cash, and it’s only a few days. What could go wrong?

Everything.

First, Addie is briefly distracted by a charismatic local boat captain before the disheartening realization that his captivating smile is something else she doesn’t have time for.

Then, she barely sets foot on the island when it becomes devastatingly obvious she’s made a huge mistake. But she’s trapped: leaving would be professional suicide, and now there are questions that need answering. With each passing hour come more disturbing revelations about her hosts, the tension mounting until finally death strikes, and the tranquil island becomes the sinister stage for a fatal script with Addie in the lead role.

As the body count rises and the killer closes in, will Addie survive long enough to unmask the psychopath pulling the strings and escape with her life?

The Offer is a gripping psychological suspense novel where nothing is as it seems. If you relish strong heroines, unpredictable twists, and riveting intrigue, you’ll be enthralled by this compelling story by USA TODAY bestselling author D.L. Wood. Get your copy now and don't miss another thrilling moment.

MY THOUGHTS

Wow, what a thrill ride! The first chapter was chilling and had me riveted to the pages. I was hooked until the final word!

I thought the setting was great. A private island with a massive mansion is the perfect spot for a mystery to take place. I liked Addie. She had a lot of guts and resiliency. And while I can't say that I agreed with her decision to take that last minute job (some things are just too good to be true), I could completely understand her reasoning.

One thing I've learned from this author's previous books is to expect the unexpected. I've been left shocked and stunned by the twists in her books, and the same happened here. In fact, this might just be the most surprising one yet! Just when I'd think I had it all figured out, when I thought I knew how things were going to go, there was a curveball, and everything changed. I love how the author continually surprises me like that.

If you're looking for a thrilling mystery with twists and turns galore, pick up a copy of this book. You won't be disappointed.

I received an advanced copy of this book from the author and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion.

Book Beginnings, First Line Friday, & Friday 56: The Lies We Believe (Shadow Stalkers #1) by Lisa Harris

This week I'm featuring The Lies We Believe (Shadow Stalkers #1) by Lisa Harris

About the Book
Riley Bishop is a single mother, working at home as a graphic designer to provide for her two children, Sadie and Oliver. But something is very wrong. Riley starts forgetting things—like appointments, where she put her keys, and where she parked her car. And then she thinks she sees her deceased ex-husband while out shopping. But as Riley begins to question her own sanity, her twelve-year-old Sadie goes missing.

Book Beginnings / First Line Friday
There are seventy-two unbroken white tiles on the floor of the intake lobby of the psychiatric hospital. I know this because I have counted them while I sit, waiting for my name to be called. I arrived three hours ago, and I'm still waiting. Still uncertain how I got here.

Friday 56
I shift in my seat, suddenly feeling extremely uncomfortable. The last thing I want to do is talk about Lucas. Especially when they already know everything they're asking me.

Can't Wait Wednesday: Iris (The Minnesota Marshalls #4) by Susan May Warren

Can't Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Wishful Endings that spotlights and discusses the books we're excited about that we've yet to read. Generally, they're books that are yet to be released. It's based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.

This week I'm featuring Iris (The Minnesota Marshalls #4) by Susan May Warren releasing August 8. I still need to read book three, but the first two books have been so good. I'm sure this one will be too.

About the Book
Iris Marshall never wanted to be anything more than what she is—an official for the European League of (American) Football. So, why she said yes to being a courier for the CIA? She’s not sure, especially when it lands her in an international thriller that has her on the run from a killer. And worse, the person she’s on the run with? Arrogant, bossy, playboy Hudson Bly football player and the last person on earth she wants to go into hiding with.

Hudson knows his days as a wide-receiver are numbered. Too many head injuries, starting with a violent TBI in college have caught up with him. So yes, he agreed to be a patriot, do his bit for the USA and courier a message between agents. He never expected for that simple act to ignite an international man-hunt for the official who wrecked his life, Iris Marshall. But what’s a guy to do—let her get killed?

But spending time with Iris has ignited a desire in him that takes him by surprise, and for Iris, maybe Hudson is more than she thought.

But who is after Iris? When one of her fellow officials is murdered, maybe the killer is after more than just her—maybe she’s found herself in the middle of an international plot to take down a country.

It’ll take the help of the entire family to keep Iris safe…but at what cost when they have to choose between their careers…and their country?

Join the Marshall family in book four of the thrilling romantic adventure!

Review: Positively, Penelope by Pepper Basham

About the Book
The world could do with a little more kindness and positivity and random acts of singing, don’t you think?

Dear Reader, My name is Penelope, and while I may not be a real-life princess, I’ve been told I possess a certain fairy-tale heroine quality. I wield optimism as my weapon of choice, don amazing shoes and vintage hats whenever possible, and speak in musical references. All of which perfectly qualifies me to succeed in my new role as a marketing intern at the historic Darling House theater on the island of Skymar.

Only . . . it seems this internship position is going to be a LOT bigger than I thought. The Gray family, who owns the theater, has been stuck in a rut of darkness ever since the loss of their matriarchs. Now all that’s left is a dying theater, a reclusive grandfather, three siblings, and an adorable seven-year-old girl who desperately needs some pixie-dust magic.

So that’s what this story is about. My plans to save the theater! (Plans that, somehow, keep being stolen by a local competitor.) And an anonymous online theater troupe. And two single brothers who may be vying for this American girl’s heart . . . until they’re not (or maybe they just want me for my ideas too). And a dream job offer that will require me to make a truly heart-wrenching decision. I may not excel at finishing stories, but I promise to see this one through to its happily ever after.

Positively,

Penelope

MY THOUGHTS

What a delightfully fun read! I loved it so much! It was just as good as the first book, Authentically, Izzy. This could be read as a standalone, but I'd still recommend starting with Izzy just because it's so good.

I literally laughed out loud numerous times and had a smile on my face for the majority of the book. It's such a feel-good romance, but it has a lot of depth and heart, too. It wasn't just fluff, and I loved that.

This was full of wonderful and likable characters. I loved Penelope's positivity and joyfulness. It was contagious! I also loved her tenacity and determination to help The Darling House. I instantly fell for Matthias. Yeah, he was a grump, but he was such an endearing one! And despite that grumpiness, he was such a stand-up guy. A gentleman with a surprisingly great sense of humor. I also loved the secondary characters too. Grandpa Gray, Iris, and Gwynn—the list could go on and on.

If you're looking for a laugh-out-loud, heartwarming, and sweet romance, grab a copy of this book. You won't be disappointed.
