MY THOUGHTS

The Bookshop of 99 Doors is a new favorite! Jaime Jo Wright’s books are always some of my most anticipated reads. And, I’ve gotta say, this new release exceeded all of my very high expectations. I loved it so much!

Following Minnie Tipton in 1888 and Triss Bellamy in the present day, I was instantly intrigued by this suspenseful dual timeline. In books like this, I’m usually drawn to one timeline over the other, but I was equally invested in both. I couldn’t read it fast enough!

While this wasn’t too scary, there were a few times when I got goosebumps and chills down my spine. But I appreciated the explanations of what was really going on. And I loved the faith threads woven throughout both timelines. It was powerful and inspiring, especially given the subject matter.

Jaime Jo Wright is a master of Gothic fiction, and I can’t wait to read whatever she writes next. I highly, highly recommend this story!

MY THOUGHTS

Jaime Jo Wright never fails to impress. This was another hauntingly beautiful story full of spine-chilling moments and a hope-filled message.

This dual timeline takes place at Müllerian Manor in 1921 with Marian Arnold one year into prohibition and the present day with Remy Shaw.

The Arnold family's fortunes took a turn for the worse when prohibition became law. After the bankruptcy of the family's brewery and the death of her parents, the only thing left for Marian is their summer home, staffed with only a few remaining servants. Ghostly visions haunt her, and butterflies become an ominous portent of doom as a killer strikes.

In the present day, Remy is a biographer’s assistant staying at Müllerian Manor, helping to research Marian’s mysterious life and the elusive serial killer, the Butterfly Butcher. But danger is around every corner, and it’s not long before Remy is being targeted in the same way that the Butterfly Butcher’s victims were.

I was so invested in the mysteries and was completely surprised by the turn of events. I thought I had it all figured out several times, but nope! I didn’t see it coming until right before the reveals!

I enjoyed both timelines equally. I usually prefer one over the other, but not this time. They were both equally compelling. I enjoyed the characters from both times. And it was really interesting to see the connections and parallels between the two.

Elton, the biographer, was a hoot! I loved the bond he and Remy had. Their conversations and banter made me laugh several times.

I appreciated the way mental illness was handled. It's an important topic, and the author treated it with respect and dignity.

I can't say enough good things about this book. Jaime Jo Wright is a master in this genre, and she keeps upping the ante with each book. I love how she always weaves a strong Christian message into her spooky tales. Needless to say, I highly recommend this book.

MY THOUGHTS

This was another haunting yet hope-filled Gothic mystery from one of the masters of this genre. I don’t know how she did it, but Jaime Jo Wright has outdone herself yet again! This was so good! It’s one of my favorites and is right up there with "The Haunting at Bonaventure Circus" and "Echoes Among the Stones".

This book had its spooky moments, along with some sad ones too. It dealt a lot with grief, but I loved that it was still full of hope. Wright is great at showing the light in dark situations.

I enjoyed both timelines immensely, but I was slightly more drawn to the present than the past storyline. It was close, though. I thought both mysteries were brilliant. They kept me guessing, and while I thought I had some things figured out, I was completely shocked by the reveals.

I can’t say enough good things about this book. It’s one of the best I’ve read this year. If you’re in the mood for a spooky Gothic mystery, you’ll love this book! I highly, highly recommend it!

MY THOUGHTS

Jaime Jo Wright did it again! The Lost Boys of Barlowe Theater is another gothic masterpiece! I've read all of Wright's books, and this is one of my favorites. I'm always in awe of the way she is able to write spooky and atmospheric tales that have such a strong and unwavering Christian message.

 

This story immediately drew me in and had me gripped to the pages. A cursed theater, missing people, mysterious deaths, and a ghost-hunting TV show? How could I resist?

 

I enjoyed both timelines and couldn't pick a favorite if I had to. They both featured great characters and compelling mysteries. Even though they take place over a hundred years apart, it was so interesting to see the parallels and connections between the two.

 

I highly recommend this book, and I can't say enough good things about it. I loved it so much!

MY THOUGHTS

This was another hauntingly good tale from Jaime Jo Wright, one of the masters of Gothic fiction. This story pulled me in right from the very first page. The real world faded away, and I found myself completely enveloped in the chillingly creepy pages. There were some spooky moments. I got goosebumps several times. But one of the things I love most about Wright's books is how she weaves a powerful message of faith and hope into them. Despite the darkness of the world, God's light shines bright!

I was equally invested in both timelines. I've said this before, but I'm usually drawn to one timeline over the other in books like this. Not here, though. I loved how they both connected. It was really interesting seeing all the parallels. And I loved how the Castle seemed to become a character too. I liked both Cleo and Daisy. They were interesting characters with complicated histories. I enjoyed watching their growth. The grandmothers from both timelines were my favorite characters, though. They were both so intriguing. They held many secrets and were more than what first met the eye.

I can't say enough good things about this book. The mystery was superb. And the ending? What a complete surprise! It wasn't what I was expecting, but wow! So powerful and poignant. I might've even shed a tear or two.

MY THOUGHTS

Wow, where do I even begin? What a masterful story. I was instantly pulled in, captivated, and completely engaged in it. It's the kind of book where the real world fades away and the words on the page come to full-color, vivid life.

This is a dual-timeline story, but a little different from the norm since both timelines are historical, taking place during WWI and WWII. I will say that in the beginning I was more drawn to the WWII timeline, but it wasn't long before the other one grabbed me and I found myself enjoying it just as much, maybe even more. Both timelines were chock full of wonderful, authentic, and three-dimensional characters. And while it was a little hard for me to keep them all straight at first, it didn't take long before I had them all figured out.

This book started great, but, somehow, just kept getting better and better. I loved it so much and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys historical romance.
