MY THOUGHTS

I absolutely adored this whimsical historical romance! This story was a lot of fun but also dealt with serious topics with grace. I really appreciated the chronic pain, invisible illness, and anxiety rep. They were described with such care and knowledge.

I was very intrigued by the comparison to Inspector Gadget and Little Women. It totally fit! Inspector Gadget was one of my favorite cartoons when I was a kid, so I loved all the gadgets! They were really neat!

I really liked both Margaret and Charlie. I thought they made a good pair. Charlie’s struggle with anxiety was very relatable. While I’m not usually a fan of “love at first sight," which is what happens when he first meets Margaret, I didn’t mind it all that much. I appreciated how honestly Margaret’s struggles were portrayed. I loved seeing her passion for her work. And I also loved seeing how loving and supportive her family was.

I loved the strong message of faith woven throughout the whole story. I highlighted so many passages! I can’t recommend this book highly enough! If you’re a fan of whimsical historical romances with a dash of mystery, don’t hesitate to grab a copy. You’ll love it!

MY THOUGHTS

Flaw and Order did not disappoint! I loved it so much! It was so great being back with Joey and the gang. This is my favorite Christy Barritt series, so I’m always excited to see what new is going on with these characters. And there’s a lot that happens in this book!

Jackson, Joey’s husband, has been deep undercover for longer than he was supposed to be, so Joey and her aunt Dizzy take it upon themselves to head off and find him. Joey and Dizzy are quite the pair! They’re hilarious and often found themselves in some dangerous situations. But they always meant well!

While this book had me laughing out loud in so many spots, it also had me emotional in others and on the edge of my seat throughout too. It was the perfect combination of funny, suspenseful, and emotional. It took turns I wasn’t expecting, and there was resolution to some things from previous books. There’s also some exciting things to look forward to!

This book left a big smile on my face. I absolutely adored it! If you’re a fan of fun cozy mysteries, don’t hesitate to pick up this series. You’ll love it!

MY THOUGHTS

Defender was another great addition to this series. In fact, it’s one of my favorites. It wasn’t quite as action-packed as some of the previous books, but it was no less compelling. I was completely invested and didn’t want to put it down.

I really liked Michael. He was helpful, chivalrous, and just an all-around good guy. It took a little while to warm up to Dani. She was impulsive, rushing into things without thinking about the consequences, even when she was told not to do it. But she did mean well, and by the end of the book, I ended up liking her. I enjoyed seeing her character growth. I thought Michael and Dani were really good together. They really balanced each other out.

There was even more progress made with the Shadow Syndicate. I’m really curious to see how things end up in the final book of the series! If you’re a fan of faith-filled romantic suspense, don’t hesitate to pick up this series. It’s so good!

Someone is trying to make sure a Greek-Australian couple never makes it to the altar, and it's not just perfume they're sneaking into the bride's room.

But Luca isn’t talking to Viv; not since she stopped him from escaping. That shouldn’t be surprising—and the last thing Viv should be doing is trying to talk to him more than she has to—but there’s another murderer on the loose, and they’re going to need Luca’s help to catch him.

Life was already hard, but now Viv has to somehow stop the wilder side of that life from spilling over into her normal life. Her human life. But if the two halves begin to split apart, which should she try to hold onto?

MY THOUGHTS

I started reading this book immediately after finishing the first one. I can't get enough of these characters, the story, and the worlds. I enjoyed this story just as much as the first one.

It picks up right after the events of the previous book. I was hooked! I loved the cozy mystery vibes and enjoyed seeing Viv come into her own as she grappled with the new otherworldly aspects of her life. Luca is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters I've read about in recent memory. Yes, he's unhinged, but I can't get enough of him.

I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys twisty urban fantasy. Be sure to start at the beginning because this does not stand alone. I can't wait to start book three!

There was a tideline in the lunch room. Viv saw it, hazily. She might, she thought, have been able to see it better if the room wasn't sideways. She followed the tideline with her eyes, aware of the scent of salt and seaweed, and was mildly curious that she didn't seem to find either the scent or the tideline odd.

Maybe she should have expected to see that the bins had already been put away when she arrived home, but somehow, Viv hadn't. A searing moment of utter exasperation burnt through her chest, leaving her cold and dizzy and angry in its wake.

Review: Splintered Mind (Shattered World Book 1) by W.R. Gingell

SYNOPSIS

Viv just wants work—any work. Well, not quite any work. But she’s desperate enough to accept a job offer as personal assistant to Jasper Renner—the rich and mysterious owner of the Renner Tea House—even though odd things happen whenever he’s around.

She expects to deal with rich, entitled Melbournians and a full business schedule. Instead, Viv finds herself following Jasper into a strange new world where a murderous madman has been incarcerated in a secret floor at the old Kew Asylum that may or may not exist in the human world as she knows it.

Reality is just as worryingly soft at the old tea house itself, which hides a few too many not-quite-human secrets. In one of the downstairs rooms, there’s a little girl who has been a little girl for a suspiciously long time; in the uppermost floor, there are a few windows that show a view that doesn’t exist in Melbourne. And then there are the giant cephalopod tentacles that appear from nowhere and disappear again, seemingly at will…

Now Viv isn’t sure if she’s going mad, or if the world itself has gone mad and the lunatic in Kew Asylum is the only sane person she knows.

This Australian Urban Fantasy is heavy on gothica, dark cosy/cozy, and crikeycore. There are a lot of murders, a lot more u's than you might expect, and some waking nightmares that may affect those with parasomnia.

MY THOUGHTS

I absolutely loved this book! It's another delightfully weird and wonderful read from author W.R. Gingell. It was so great being back in the world of Between and Behind with new characters and a new setting.

In the beginning of the story, Viv was clueless about the paranormal aspects of the world around her, so it was really interesting seeing her discover it. Jasper and Luca were very interesting and mysterious characters for very different reasons. I was eager to learn more about them.

This was exactly the kind of book I needed at the time. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys twisty urban fantasy. It might be helpful to have read some of Gingell's other Between and Behind books, but it does stand alone. There's no language or spice, but there is quite a bit of violence. It ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, so I'm diving right into the next book!

MY THOUGHTS

I really enjoyed this second-chance romance. Full of suspense, depth, and a great message of faith, I had a hard time putting it down.

I really liked Mia and Jackson. They had a past. A not so great one. There was a lot of history and hurt between them. Things ended badly, to put it mildly. There was a lot for them to work through, but I was rooting for them the whole time.

There were quite a bit of revelations and progress made with the Shadow Syndicate. I’m very curious where things will go next.

This ended up being a beautiful story of redemption and reconciliation. I really enjoyed my time reading it. I thought it handled some of the more serious topics with grace. MY THOUGHTS

I had a blast reading this fun and entertaining mystery. It had me laughing out loud in spots and putting my detective hat on in others.

Things got off to a bit of a rocky start between Daphne and Clark after a hilarious and slightly embarrassing first meeting. But I thought they made a great team after getting over that initial run in. I really liked them both. I loved Daphne’s aunt Hannah. She was quite the character. I also adored the dogs. It was great seeing Daphne warm up to them.

The mystery was good. I had my suspicions about who the guilty party was early on, but there were plenty of other suspects, which had me second-guessing things.

I was a little bummed that there wasn’t more Bigfoot, but it was an enjoyable read nonetheless. I really liked all the nods to Nancy Drew and Scooby Doo. I’m hoping there are many more books to come in this series. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys cozy mysteries.

MY THOUGHTS

This sequel was just as good as the first book. Maybe even better, which is saying something since it was one of my favorite reads last year. It starts right after the events of Wicked is the Hollow and follows the same characters.

This book was spooky, mysterious, and just downright awesome. There were so many twists and turns and surprises. My jaw was on the floor quite a few times. And I got goosebumps several times.

It was really interesting learning more of the town lore and about the rifts. And it was great spending more time with these characters. Although they did stress me out, lol!

I had a blast reading this book and am so eager for the next one! It ends on a cliffhanger, so book three can’t come out soon enough! This series is perfect for fans of Stranger Things. I can't recommend it highly enough!

MY THOUGHTS

I really enjoyed this grumpy/sunshine romantic suspense! It didn’t take long before the suspense kicked in and I was hooked! It became an impossible to put down thrill ride.

I really liked Aubrey and Ethan. She works for the US Marshals as an administrative assistant. She’s a stress baker with a sunshiny attitude. I was really worried for her when the killer she put in jail years ago came after her. Ethan’s a Deputy Marshal with a strong protective instinct and a secret sweet tooth. He was a bit of a grump, but the more I got to know him, the more I liked him.

This was the first book I’ve read by this author, but it won’t be my last. I look forward to reading more from her. I recommend reading this multi-author series in order because there’s an overarching mystery surrounding the Shadow Syndicate. If you’re a fan of romantic suspense with a strong thread of faith, you’ll love it!
