Review: Her Place in Time by Stephenia H. McGee

About the Book
Can love offer a new future…in the past?

A mysterious gown, unexpected courage, and a love that transcends time.

Nursing student Lena Lowery faces a grim diagnosis and a dangerous surgery. On the cusp of the life-changing procedure, Lena stays at the Rosswood Plantation Bed and Breakfast for one last weekend with her mother. There in an antique armoire, Lena discovers a Civil War-era gown that holds an unimaginable cure…a trip back in time to when the house served as a hospital.

Confederate Sergeant Caleb Dockery lost his brother, his eye, and nearly his life. Stuck in a makeshift infirmary, he’s counting the days until he can return to duty…and seek revenge. When a stranger appears, he suspects she’s a spy. If he can’t return to duty and find the revenge he craves for his brother’s death, he can serve his country by stopping this traitor. But her nursing skills are saving lives, and her courage and independence stirs his heart. When Lena’s safety is threatened, Caleb must strain the loyalties that bind him or risk losing her forever.

Caught between a future that holds no promises and a past that could offer new life, Lena must face an extraordinary decision. Should she return to her own time where her days are numbered? Or can she and Caleb find a love that stretches across time?

My Thoughts

Her Place in Time is the second book I've read by Stephenia McGee and I've gotta say, she's found a permanent place on my favorite authors list with this latest release.

I'm a big lover of books featuring time travel and Her Place in Time is topnotch, one of the best I've read! It's got a lot of heart and an inspiring message that I enjoyed very much. And oh my goodness! The cover is absolutely stunning and so perfectly captures the essence of the story.

Her Place in Time was a quick read that I didn't want to put down. I highly recommend it for anyone who loves sweet and inspirational romances.

Book Beginnings + Friday 56: Her Place in Time by Stephenia H. McGee

Book Beginnings is a weekly meme hosted by Rose City Reader that asks you to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you're reading. Friday 56 is hosted by Freda's Voice and asks you to grab a book (any book), turn to page 56 or 56% in your ereader and share a non-spoilery sentence or two.

This week I'm featuring Her Place in Time by Stephenia H. McGee. It's a really great time travel romance that takes place during the Civil War.

He stood there for several moments until she thought the silence would be unbearable. Finally he sighed, his breath stirring her hair. "So you have been going back and forth in time?" His voice softened as though he were speaking to a child.

Can't Wait Wednesday: Her Place in Time by Stephenia H. McGee

Can't Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Wishful Endings that spotlights and discusses the books we're excited about that we've yet to read. Generally, they're books that are yet to be released. It's based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.

This week I'm featuring Her Place in Time by Stephenia H. McGee releasing May 25.

Why I Need It
I don't read a lot of Civil War Era books, but I took a chance on 'In His Eyes' last year, one of Stephenia McGee's novels, and absolutely loved it! So when I saw this new book from her, I got really excited. Plus, it involves time travel, so that's an added bonus for me.

What upcoming book are you eagerly anticipating?

Review: In His Eyes by Stephenia H. McGee

Summary

Her heart sought shelter. Her soul found home.

Ella Whitaker rescues a newborn from the dying arms of a woman of ill repute and at long last she has someone to love. In need of a wet nurse, she arrives at Belmont Plantation just as Federal soldiers demand to speak to the owner. Thinking quickly, Ella masquerades as a Yankee officer's widow in order to have a roof over her head and a home for the child.

Major Westley Remington has dedicated his life to serving his country. The Civil War has divided his family, torn his thoughts of glory, and left him with a wound that may never heal. Westley returns home on medical furlough to settle his father’s estate at Belmont Plantation, only to find his home is being run by a fiery and independent woman—one many believe to be his wife. Now he is faced with a conflict he’s never been trained to fight, and one she has yet to conquer.

My Review

Five Stars

Oh, how I loved this novel! Civil War era books aren't usually a genre that I gravitate towards, but this year I've been venturing out and trying new things. I am so glad to have read 'In His Eyes'! It's such a gem! It's one of those books that I kept thinking about even when I'd have to set it aside and go do something else. It's one that, I know, will stay with me for a long time. I became completely immersed in the story. The writing was vivid and clear. It felt like I could perfectly picture life in 1865 Mississippi. It, also, brought to light some of the difficulties the south endured.

Ella had endured a lot and felt lacking in many ways, but she had an inner strength and growing faith that was so very admirable. Westley was quite sure of himself before his leg was injured in the war and then he had to reevaluate who he really was. My favorite character, though, was Sibby. She's a tough and strong woman, but so caring with a bit of a mystery surrounding her.

'In His Eyes' completely captivated me. It was the first book I've read by Stephenia H. McGee, but it surely won't be the last! I highly recommend this breathtaking historical romance to everyone!

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and comments are my own honest opinion.
