Review: The Offer (The Deadly Decisions Collection) by D.L. Wood

About the Book
Some decisions are deadly.
Addie Nichols, a young, ambitious chef, is determined to make her new Manhattan restaurant a culinary sensation. Pursuing her dream has cost her everything, including financial stability. Though the restaurant is gaining ground, Addie can’t even afford to pay her rent.

One night a wealthy socialite makes Addie an unbelievable offer: an exorbitant sum for personally catering a weekend celebration for her husband on their secluded private island, nestled in the idyllic Thousand Islands. Ignoring inner echoes of “don’t talk to strangers,” Addie accepts. She desperately needs cash, and it’s only a few days. What could go wrong?

Everything.

First, Addie is briefly distracted by a charismatic local boat captain before the disheartening realization that his captivating smile is something else she doesn’t have time for.

Then, she barely sets foot on the island when it becomes devastatingly obvious she’s made a huge mistake. But she’s trapped: leaving would be professional suicide, and now there are questions that need answering. With each passing hour come more disturbing revelations about her hosts, the tension mounting until finally death strikes, and the tranquil island becomes the sinister stage for a fatal script with Addie in the lead role.

As the body count rises and the killer closes in, will Addie survive long enough to unmask the psychopath pulling the strings and escape with her life?

MY THOUGHTS

Wow, what a thrill ride! The first chapter was chilling and had me riveted to the pages. I was hooked until the final word!

I thought the setting was great. A private island with a massive mansion is the perfect spot for a mystery to take place. I liked Addie. She had a lot of guts and resiliency. And while I can't say that I agreed with her decision to take that last minute job (some things are just too good to be true), I could completely understand her reasoning.

One thing I've learned from this author's previous books is to expect the unexpected. I've been left shocked and stunned by the twists in her books, and the same happened here. In fact, this might just be the most surprising one yet! Just when I'd think I had it all figured out, when I thought I knew how things were going to go, there was a curveball, and everything changed. I love how the author continually surprises me like that.

If you're looking for a thrilling mystery with twists and turns galore, pick up a copy of this book. You won't be disappointed.

I received an advanced copy of this book from the author and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion.
